When will it end? When will Rex Ryan finally end the drought vs Peyton Manning?

Only time will tell but for now the Jets have gotten better in a years time. Last year the Jets were trying to find their way while making a late great playoff push that took them to the AFC championship game. A rookie QB and a make shift secondary lead by Darrelle Revis. Rex Ryan’s man to man blitzing concepts can rattle and intimidate virtually any quarterback on an given Sunday, however this just isn’t any Sunday and this just isn’t any quarterback. The Jets are preparing to engage in another tilt with the most talented and perhaps the most deadly quarterback of the modern era and maybe of all time.

Enter Peyton Manning.

Manning has torched Rex Ryan’s defences for years and we wonder, with Rex Ryan being such a defensive wizard and highly touted for having amazing schemes and schematics that are supposed to cause living hell for opposing QB’s, why is Peyton so successful? The answer isn’t that far off. Rex Ryan’s defensive schemes are different then most in NFL. What can help Ryan’s defence can also  cripple it.  . In years past Peyton and most QB’s struggle against aggressive zone/zone blitzing philosophies. Peyton for years was tortured by Bill Belichick and Dick Lebeau (Steelers) zone blitzing schemes. They installed them to confuse Peyton and keep him guessing. Rex Ryan’s defense’s are man to man and it can be a disadvantage for Ryan. Peyton dissects his opposition by recognition. Unfortunately for Rex’s man to man defense, defenders (mainly on the outside) have to engage early this shows part of the Jets hand pre-snap which is a plus if your Peyton Manning and a negative if you’re the defense.

Peyton is rarely sacked and he knows well before hand where he wants to go with the football. If Rex Ryan can’t get exotic enough and throw some wrinkles into the defense pre-snap then the Jets are going home and we’ll see you around OTA’s. Thus another loss for Ryan’s coveted man defence and surely a dent in Rex Ryan’s ego to go along with the others.

Peyton has been a thorn in the side of Rex Ryan for many years. If Rex doesn’t find a way to get past Indy he’s  never going to achieve his superbowl ring. The road to the ring will perennially run through Pittsburgh, Indy and New England. It’s time for Rex Ryan to find a way and get this done.
