Comeback Player of the Year

Walker Award: Jets OLB Aaron Maybin

Analysis: This was a close race between Maybin and Bush. But Bush, who recently won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints, has shown plenty of flashes and the ability to play in the NFL. Maybin didn’t show anything until this year. Ryan has an eye for defensive talent. He figured Maybin could fit in New York’s scheme as a situational pass-rusher and he was right. Maybin led the Jets with six sacks to jump-start his NFL career.

Good to see the hard work pay off Aaron Maybin who’s came to the Jets and has instantly fit right in with the scheme. Loves playing for Rex Ryan and seem to fit with the personnel on this Jets team like a glove. Rex has him working primarily on 3rd and definite passing downs ,strictly as an edge rusher and he has been bringing the chaos. His burst off the line of scrimmage and deadly speed coming off the edge are a refreshing surprise. Jets fans have gotten used to Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas. Both lunch bucket types that play really well against the run but don’t “wow” you as pass rusher. With the strong play of Maybin and perhaps a really good splash in the draft at OLB or in free agency the Jets might look and feel completely different next season.

Congrats to Aaron and sky’s the limit for him. I know Jets fans are excited to see his growth and development next year.
