“As good as Ed Reed is, we’ve never had an athlete like LaRon Landry that can do the things he can do,” said defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman, who along with Rex Ryan coached Reed with the Ravens. “He’s explosive. He’s fast. He’s tough. He’s physical.”

One thing is certain with Rex is he doesn’t hold his tongue, another is he’s never short on praise for his players. So it’s no surprise that Rex gets right to the meat when throwing around praise for his players. If your an outsider to Rex Ryan, his ways or the Jets then this would likely strike you as an absurd comment but to Jets fans we know Landry has done almost nothing to be branded with comparisons to future hall of famer Ed Reed.

Does Landry possess some scary attributes? He absolutely does. He’s big, has been clocked at 4.2 40 type speed and has been tagged with being a ferocious hitter. Injuries have sidelined growth and development. Can he be a big time player for the Jets if he stays healthy? yes. He’s in a system where his coaches will fully utilize his strengths. He won’t be almost strictly used to play a deep third coverage or “robber”. He’ll be asked to play everything under the sun. Play in the box, man up on TE’s and RB’s out the backfield, play in a FS/SS role and be a staple for Rex’s beloved 4-6 defense.

So can he be a good one? sure. Comparing him to Ed Reed? I’ll admit Rex reached a little but we still love ya big guy!
