Wayne Hunter talks about his benching.

“It wasn’t a surprise,” Hunter said after practice. “Everyone knows. The whole New York City (area) knows that I’ve been struggling for the last year. The last game, I didn’t do much better. So, I wasn’t surprised. I was just waiting for it, to be honest with you.”

The Wayne Hunter project is all but over. Mike Tannenbaum crossed his fingers with Hunter after he balked at not giving in and paying Damien Woody his 3.5Mil to return. Hunter initially played some real solid games. Notably against the Colts bookends Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney. So with solid games against solid opposition it was easy then for Mike and Rex to anoint Hunter the starter and opt to pocket a couple million in not playing Damien Woody.

Just like anything in football, give it enough time and someone will figure it out. With time and game film DE’s around the league have slowly noticed flaws in Hunters game, then the exploitation began. Wayne Hunter has been a whipping boy for DE’s around the league and it’s time for Tannenbaum and the Jets to get the right tackle position solved.
