Complete show off catch. He intended to use his bare hand the entire time. If it was a real great play he would have attempted to use his glove hand first and if he couldn't reach it (which he could have). A baseball player's instincts tell him to use his glove hand, Wright didn't even attempt to put it up, he knew exactly what he was going to do.

He wasn't showing off! He made the wron read initially, and he couldn't move his glove accross his body, so he had to use his hand.
Oh please the only reason he couldn't use his glove in the end is because he never put it up to begin with. Like I said, instincts tell you to put your glove up before anything and he went with his bare hand the entire way to attempt to make a highlight reel. He knew exactly what he was doing.

So....
If I have the ability and I want to show it off wouldn't I do just that? Show it off? Please you'rer just looking for an excuse to not like the guy. Give him a break. He's the lone bright spot for an organization that has been devoid of a star that actually will last for decades. If you don't like that play then it's your own personal feelings getting in the way. I hate the Yankees and JEter (but I still respect them both) but I still love that Jeter into the crowd play. This is just an example. I could say things about Jeter in a similar fashion but I don't because it's stupid.

Trust me JetsOhFive, I've played SS and 3B a lot, and when you make the wrong read running backwards, it's nearly impossible to catch it with your glove. I've only done it 1-3 times out of 100 chances.

Don't say I don't like him, I have nothing against him and he is a great ball player who will bring the Mets back. But there is no question that it was a show off catch, I wont tell you why, you can look up to the previous posts to see why.

And guess what, when I played baseball I also played third base. And when you're going back your first instinct is to use your glove hand (notice how he never put his up, he was going for the bare handed highlight reel play). It was a nice play, but he was definately showing off.

I must admit, I'm with Jetsohfive on this one, it was a showoff play, but I don't really see the problem with that. And I don't think theres any doubt Reyes and Wright have put fans in the stands for the Mets. But I, too, played SS in my day, I can't remembr myself ever tracking a ball down and trying to bare hand it except grounders, but in the air, glove or hit.
