@DWAZ73 : One other thing: Idzik now has landed arguably No. 1 QB, RB and WR in free agency this offseason despite deliberate approach. #Jets
santana Icon : (Yesterday, 02:41 PM) The title race is real
Chaos Icon : (Yesterday, 02:42 PM) Jordan...what number was he? it was 30sometihng
Chaos Icon : (Yesterday, 02:43 PM) tanaka had a great game today. gave up 2 hits due to bunts. 10K
Mr_Jet Icon : (Yesterday, 02:48 PM) Jordan was #34 with the Jets.
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:03 PM) Tanaka is looking like a stud
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:04 PM) Jets added Vick, Chris Johnson, and Eric Decker to the offense.
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:04 PM) FIRE IDZIK
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:04 PM) And this draft is loaded at the offensive skill positions
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:04 PM) Hopefully we can get anohter starting WR and starting TE in the draft
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:05 PM) Our offense could be much better than last year
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:05 PM) can't get much worse than what it's been the last 2 years
santana Icon : (Yesterday, 03:22 PM) Very cool
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:24 PM) FIRE IDZIK
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:32 PM) still need another WR
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:33 PM) so i bet powell barely gets any touches this year and goodson gets cut
azjetfan Icon : (Yesterday, 03:34 PM) Goodson is as good as gone.
azjetfan Icon : (Yesterday, 03:34 PM) With all his legal issues and coming off injury he is done. Possibly even in the NFL
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:39 PM) Powell is average anyways.
Chaos Icon : (Yesterday, 03:39 PM) @ProFootballTalk 5m

Per source, Chris Johnson's two-year deal has a base value of $8 million, with another $1 million available in incentives based on yardage.
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:40 PM) He does a lot of things well, but isn't talented enough. Johnson has breakaway ability still and Ivory is man beast running the football
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 03:41 PM) We will get another WR in the draft. Even in round 2 you can get a starting WR
azjetfan Icon : (Yesterday, 04:09 PM) I am still standing by my CB in the first round and WR in the second prediction
santana Icon : (Yesterday, 05:19 PM) The title race is bale
azjetfan Icon : (Yesterday, 05:34 PM) Sidney rice coming in for a visit
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 05:49 PM) I think the Jets are getting themselves ready to draft best player available
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 05:49 PM) Last year they stuck to their board
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (Yesterday, 06:27 PM) if they sign him I think that means they look to take a CB round 1
2JBallar01 Icon : (Yesterday, 06:32 PM) “@AdamSchefter: RB Chris Johnson's 2-year deal with Jets has a team option in it for year two. Jets have option to pick up year two at $4M in February 2015.”
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 06:51 PM) @AlbertBreer 2m
Sidney Rice has agreed to terms with the Seahawks on a one-year deal, per source.

Would you guys rather lose for 3 or 4 years straight (not making the playoffs) and try to find/groom a young guy (possibly longer because he'll be working to get there). Or have 10 years that we get into the first round of the playoffs only?

I'll tell you guys why I'm asking this as people respond.

3 or 4 years of losing to groom a young QB. Assuming that we win a super bowl or at least get to one.

I do not want to root for Favre. Win or lose that's the bottom line.

Well to be true to the question at hand, I'd rather groom the QB and see what happens. I wouldn't want to root for a team that I knew wasn't going to win the Super Bowl for 10 years. That sucks. But that's a hypothetical because we know what the outcome would be with the 10 year deal.

Even if this QB we groom for 3 or 4 years turns out to have the arm of Marino, the smarts and accuracy of Montana, the 4th quarter comeback ability of Elway, and the mobility of Randall Cunningham. If you don't have a solid O-line and a strong running game that QB will spend more time on his back than a $5.00 hooker on a Navy ship in the middle of the ocean. So grooming a QB even if he's the greatest of all time doesn't mean we will win a Super Bowl too. Elway didn't win one until he had Terrell Davis, Marino never had one (great RB) and never won a ring too.

Like the lotto, You got to be in it to win it. Think of it this way, 1998 (10 years ago) the Jets were one game away from Super Bowl XXXIII. Now if from 1998 to 2007 the Jets made the playoffs every year that would make the Jets a more attractive place for free agents. Vets who knew they only had a few good years left (guys like Brett Favre) would be more open to coming to the Jets knowing they make the playoffs every year. Their chances of winning a title would be much better. Also your 1st round draft picks wouldn't threaten to do things like play baseball (Elway) or demand a trade (Eli), because the team has a history of making the playoffs. Now granted that means the Jets wouldn't draft early in the first round for 10 years (unless they make a trade to draft higher). But what good has that done the Lions, Browns, and Cardinals (maybe even the Jets) almost every year for 20 years? Drafting high doesn't always translate into success 4 or 5 years later.

Then I'm reminded of a QB that was groomed to be not only be the face of his franchise but the face of the NFL also, but he's sitting in prison right now, Michael Vick. When you draft a guy and groom him you never know what could happen that could keep him from being what you expect him to be. The Falcons put all their eggs in one basket and when Vick fell from grace, all their eggs fell with him and busted. Now they're starting over again with a new coach and new QB they have to groom. All the talent in the world doesn't mean this QB we groom will have a good head on his shoulders or be able to withstand the New York spotlight. He could have run ins with the law or just start to think his own shit smells like roses (i.e. Barry Bonds) and end up having his teammates hating him. Which could cost a coach his job, make another good player(s) run to another team, and just cause havoc and misery in the locker room.

So to answer the question I guess I'll take 10 years of playoff losses, because who's to know what would happen in year 11. My guess is we have a better chance of getting over the hump in year 11 than having a great QB and nothing else in year 5.
