water and bodybuilding

Last night going to the gym that I co-own for a mass building workout, I noticed that the water fountain was leaking out of the spigot. I also pay the bills and know that the water bill is going to be higher because of this. So the first thing I do is look for a valve to turn off. I looked all over the place and couldn't find a way to shut off the ever flowing water. Then I took off the front of the fountain and tried to adjust the spigot. Next thing you know I had a geyser. The guys watching me while bench pressing started to laugh when the water sprayed on my face. I managed to get it settled down again.

I kept on working on it in-between sets of front leg squats. After awhile I just gave up and decided to call the landlord and find out where the valve is hid.

The lifting crew is not going to be happy that the water fountain is down. That thing gets used a lot especially now during the summer months.

In the following article, Tony Drake talks about the importance of drinking water and bodybuilding.

How to Gain Weight and Muscle Mass

by Tony Drake

Here is an all too common formula used by beginner bodybuilders:

2 hour workouts

+

7 days a week

+

Weight I can handle comfortably

=

Why aren't I gaining muscle mass?

The most important word used in this article is also the most important word you need in your vocabulary if you're a skinny guy desperately trying to gain weight. This word is extreme. If you want to gain weight and add muscle, you need to start thinking in extremes, especially if you're an extremely skinny guy. Remember this motto, and you'll do well in many facets of your life: A big result requires a big action. This is basic physics, my friend.

A big action, though, does not mean a long workout. If you're spending 90 minutes in the gym on your strength-training days, then you need to re-think what you're doing. 90 minute workouts are impossible if you're working intensely and challenging yourself in how much weight you can handle. Long workouts should be reserved for your cardio/endurance training days. You may be tempted to think that spending 45 minutes driving to and from the gym - as well as showering and changing - is a lot of effort just to perform a 30 minute workout. This is your mind playing tricks on you.

Working with extremes extends also to your eating habits. Of course, there are a couple of ways to gain weight through your dietary habits. The most popular is to consume large amounts of empty calories, which will develop endless rolls of useless fat. The way you will want to do it is in consuming large amounts of complex carbohydrates and proteins. HUGE amounts of protein. If you're a skinny guy that eats like a canary or just the standard 3 meals a day, you may be surprised by what will be required of you in order to start gaining muscular weight:

* 5 to 7 meals per day. This works out to eating a meal rich in protein and complex carbohydrates approximately every 3 hours of your waking day.

* A gram of protein for every pound of body weight per day. MINIMUM. If you weigh 170 pounds and can't imagine yourself eating 170 grams of protein a day, find comfort in the fact that probably at least one of your favorite foods is protein rich. These type of foods include fish, soy, beef, poultry, eggs, and peanut butter, among others.

* Approximately 0.5 ounces of water for every pound of body weight per day. You will have a hard time ever attempting to overdose on water, and since your body's muscles are made up of 70% h2o, drinking it makes your muscles appear fuller and increases your strength to boot.

If your mind is in the habit of thinking in terms of taking small actions, then you're probably getting small results, both in the gym and other areas of your life. It's worth your while to indulge in some self analysis on this point. Beyond this, find yourself a good workout program, buy some weights or a gym membership, and you're on your way to attaining the physique that you've always dreamed of.
