I don't think it would be the best idea ever...he is small like Vilma...and two small ILB's in the 3-4 sounds like a bad idea to me. Perhaps Vilma could learn a thing or two about shedding blocks at such a small size. But eh...I think Vilma will be fine.
I'd personally rather move Hobson inside as many on this board have mentioned...and go after one of the pass rushing OLB's in the second round. Barton can be traded to a 4-3 team like the Jaguars, Eagles, or Rams. All 3 have deep playoff aspirations and I'm sure would love to add a veteran to their weakened OLB'ers.

this guy is right on the money. we are a young team which is one main reason why we do not want to sign adalius thomas this offseason. he just wouldn't fit in with the youth movement we started last season. also, hes not even that good anymore, and with his age, his production must be on the downslide. we are talking about getting rid of eric barton who will be 30 this season. no way we can use edwards who is much older than that.

the only way i think we should bring him in is if his contract is favorable, meaning if hes unproductive (which i highly doubt) we can cut him next season without taking much of a cap hit...................i do agree with you guys that this team is in a youth movement and should keep that going but with that said if there is one huge flaw in the D besides NT its that we dont have a wily vet that brings leadership with his play and voice in the locker room..and there is only a few positions that we can fix in free agency..... as there is no NT that can match the success or bring the upside that this guy could bring to the team.....i know alot of people think SANDs is the man but as i was well schooled on by people on this site size is not what makes a NT and he has never played in the 3-4 before ......Kimo is a vet but he certainly doesnt show it on the field....Edwards is a guy that has had great success before he met Jamal williams as he was a pro-bowler with the chiefs in 03' and in the 3-4...and his biggest attribute on this team could be the mentoring of Vilma....we know Vilma is frustrated in the 3-4 but this guy could show vilma the nuances of being a great 3-4 mlb....as great as ray lewis is he struggled mightily in the 3-4 and was never half the player he was in the 4-3 because he gave up on it and whinned until they reverted back to the 4-3.....It would be a very wise investment IMO to team vilma up with somebody who has had tremendous experience and success with it.....not to mention that we will get younger anyway at OLB in this years draft and eventually going to get rid of barton this year or next so Edwards "knowledge" of the 3-4 and MLB could be invaluable..........we can all agree that mangini is going to be the HC here for a very long time which means so will the 3-4 defense and it would be ashame if Vilma could not reach the potential of being the best MLB in the game which i think he has because he doesnt know the nuances of the system and decides to leave for a team that employs a system that is better suited for his style of play.....signing Edwards wouldnt be bringing in just another "old guy" but a player who still has pro-bowl ability and could help Vilma be twice the player he is now....if you ask me he is worth every cent he wants in that aspect alone..............not to mention he is 1000000000000000 times better than kassell LOL..........but really you cant expect a time full of young guys to be successfull in a new system especially without 2-3 guys who can be a mentor and play well in it

Hobson was very good at the end of the year and I know it's been said a hundred times, but Hobson should move inside. He is a good tackler, which ILBs need to be to stop the run. Edwards is gonna be 34 when TC starts and Hobson is gonna be 27 and Hobson will be much cheaper. I'd pass on Edwards personally.
