Former Jets coach Herman Edwards has reached a verbal agreement in principle with the Kansas City Chiefs on a four-year, $12 million dollar contract to become their head coach, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported.

The 51-year-old Edwards will receive a raise over the $2 million per year that he was making as Jets coach. The Chiefs received permission Friday morning to talk with Edwards after the NFL office gave the OK for the Chiefs to compensate the Jets with a fourth-round choice in the 2006 draft.


Edwards will replace Dick Vermeil, who resigned after five years and led the Chiefs to a 10-6 record. They were the only 10-win team not to make the playoffs.


Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson and Edwards have been close friends for more than 30 years, since Peterson tried to recruit him to UCLA. Edwards' background as a defensive player and coach was also big factor in his favor.

First question.......what promises did he make?

Promised to put a quality team on the field which he failed to do this year. Before you start talking about injuries, he failed to back up his team at key positions is what i'm saying. Injuries are part of the game. Not preparing for it is unacceptable. NOW, He signed a contract and had a team meeting telling his players he would stay. Not that I'm mad that he's gone. But promise is a promise. He does the opposite of everything he says. That's a liar. He's a bullshit artist. When things goes bad, he tried to talk his way out of it. Herm can sell ice to eskimos. So much for Edward's honesty, integrity and so on. All that preaching BS about honesty, integrity, not being about money, bla, bla, bla. We found out today that not only is he a liar but he also has no loyalty or sense of integrity. What a great example he is for everyone. He's bitching about his contract, but wasn't he the one who renegotiated when they extended it? Is he any better than TO. Once again, this is a prime example of no loyalty, no honesty and a bunch of BS that professional sports have become. What upsets me are the lies, they all talk, talk, talk but none of them practice what they preach. Everyone threw Parcells under the bus when he left, Edwards is no better. Bradway is another BS artist and needs to go, NOW!
