Jetsfan115 Icon : (29 April 2016 - 09:02 PM) I said the rumor was they liked him more then cook
Mr_Jet Icon : (29 April 2016 - 11:35 PM) I know I'm biased, but I've seen them both play. Cook is just better. Hackenberg had one good year. Cook has won more games, played in big games and won them....whatever, its done now so no sense on dwelling on it I guess. I just don't see the appeal in Hackenberg, nice kid, but I always thought he was really overrated. Oh well. I would have taken Kevin Hogan over Hackenberg.
azjetfan Icon : (30 April 2016 - 03:47 PM) From what I have read so far he had a great freshman year under Obrien in a pro style offense. At that point some considered him the next Andrew luck. Then Obrien left and they shifted to a spread under new HC who did poor job bringing in talent. He was also sacked and hit a million times. Might be shell shocked.
Smedsthejet Icon : (01 May 2016 - 06:17 AM) But Chan Gailey runs a spread system - still, I'm comfortable with the Hackenberg pick seeing as Gailey will develop the system to suit his strength... I'm just glad that we passed on Paxton Lynch in the first...we still desperately need Fitz to re-sign though
azjetfan Icon : (01 May 2016 - 07:14 PM) From my understanding the spread in college and the spread in NFL are not the same principals. I really think it was more of a talent issue and getting sacked 80 times in 2 years that did him in. I have no idea if he will make it. I don't follow college ball enough to to know. Theses are just things I read in articles.
Jetsfan115 Icon : (02 May 2016 - 10:24 AM) I'm stoked about getting peake in the 7th round. that was a steal. he was a projected 3rd rounder. wonder what scared teams away

Jetsfan0099 Icon : (03 May 2016 - 05:16 PM) Apparently, they loved Golf and tried to trade up. When that failed, their #2 QB was Hackenberg, they fell in love with his football IQ
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (03 May 2016 - 05:17 PM) It would be a mistake to start him right away, hes a guy who needs development. He has the talent, and apparently he has good leadership skills and football IQ. His mechanics are off though

I'm just trying to put this together. We have a terrible pass defense... but I don't understand why. On paper, we should be good. I mean, we are near the top of the league in sacks. Revis is by all accounts a shut-down, cut-the field in half corner. Rhodes is supposedly a Pro Bowl caliber safery... what is the problem? Is it our zone schemes? Are our LBs too slow? Why is it every time I watch a game, there's always a TE or a WR open on 3rd and 8? Worse still, they get like 7 more YAC. What's goin on?

We have no pass rush. Plain and simple

CBs aren't expected to cover their man for longer than 3 - 4.5 seconds. When we give time to QB & let WR's come off their routes...CBs can't stick with that. Only way to solve the problem of giving 4.5 seconds or less...is pressure on QB.

Time tested formula!

Well multiple reasons...
1-We are extremely young in the secondary-Some players aren't in the right position. We have some guys who have little starting experience. Some players that aren't where they are meant to be.
2-Pass rush-We don't get a consistent pass rush. When a blitz is called they don't get to the QB or pressure the throw. They run into blocks and thats it.

Those are the main reasons, I thought I could think of more but thats about it. How do we fix it? We need better pass rush. Let Calvin Pace rush the passer more than dropping back. David Harris is a good blitzer so he may help returning, plus Bowens gets to be a situtational player again.
We may need a safety moving on. Elam is a griddy player, but he lacks speed. He is a liability in pass coverage. He got beat TWO times against the Broncos. He can't be relied on as a deep safety. Which hurts the defense.

Dwight Lowery will be a good player with experience. He is playing like a rookie. Beat at times, makes plays at times. Very up and down season for him.
Revis basically is the pass defense.

We need a big time pass rusher.. We are missing one still. I would love to draft Tyson Jackson possibly, not that hes a big time pass rusher. But it can get a Mike Devito/Kenyon Coleman off the field in passing situations. Jackson had a 12 sack season before, and hes a huge man to play the 3-4 DE position. (which we could use some youth at, Coleman(29) Ellis(31))

I wish we didn't have Gholston so we could draft George Selvie, I think he fits at OLB better. Hes more athletic. I actually want to see the Jets put Marcus Murrell in on passing downs. He showed the ability to speed rush to the QB, would be nice to see some of that speed on the field.

i think u guys are all wrong. i mean we are top 5 in sacks. its not the pass rush. alot has come off of plays 3 seconds or less. we haven't let up many big plays. i think royals TD was the only big play we let up.

The problem i think is we have the best 1st half offense in the league. we are getting ahead so high teams are forced to trhow the entire second half. look at teh pass attempts against us. its crazy. think about the pats game, STL, arizona etc. teams are having to pass a ton on us.

i think it will help when we get harris back. He is much better in coverage than bowens who played DE most of his career. Harris will shut down the TE's better and force the QB to throw more to his 2nd and third option which i believe will help us out.

I disagree completely. We are 5th in the nfl in sacks (2nd in afc). We have good people in the secondary. I honestly think the reason we are bad is because we are winning a lot. We have had a lot of early leads (Pats game, Cardinals game, Titans game, Rams game). Teams know that they are not going to run the ball on us, so they are forced to pass. We go into our prevent defense when we have a comfortable lead which will let up a lot of passing yards. The players arent bad, but i think the scheme is a little off.

I never thought Ty Law coming back was going to be the answer. I wasn't jumping up and down like some people. he looks slow as hell. The DB class in the draft is not that strong. I say look for a free agent and spend top dollar again. Staying in range of the cap.

too much man to man coverage. Bottom line.

When you don't have an amazing pass rush you simply cannot play man to man coverage.

Not enough zone blitzing, predictibility and WAY TOO MUCH MAN COVERAGE!

What the hell has happened to the jets? Little dump off passes. When we try a deep ball, the receiver is covered like a blanket. I really thought we were going to come out and establish the running game and stomp SF. It is still halftime but both sides of the ball better get it sorted out.

Is it just me or are you all in fuckin denial. You wanna know why we suck at Pass Defense? Because our coaches don't know how to put our secondary in the right position. I've seen 30 passes the past 4 games that are completed in the middle on 4 defensive players.

GET IT?!?!? We can't cover 1 receiver with 4 defensive players! That's why we suck.

Say hello and please welcome Cowher Power. Mangini is a fuckin joke.

No kidding. I'm sorry, I love Kerry and I stood by his draft status from day one, loving the pick. But to say he's a great safety.... sorry, I'd have to disagree. Maybe it's our shitty system, but he has barely made an appearance all year. I mean I don't ever see him. He wont make the Pro Bowl once again, and if he does he certainly doesn't deserve it.

You were saying????? Our pass rush isn't a problem??? Sacks are meaningless in discussing a teams pass rush... Pressure is what really counts, sacks are the bonus of pressure. Sure we have a bunch of sacks but we aren't making QB feel pressured. When you have QB like Shaun Hill tear you up, you know your pressure isn't getting there. 49ers OL isn't even good.... Our guys don't know how to contain a pocket, how to shed blocks, how to keep the QB from running 15 yards up the middle.

We may of attended to get a big time pass rusher with Gholston, but sorry he has sucked this year. He can't get off blocks. Thats our teams problem is that he isn't what we thought he was going to be. Our defense misses that guy that creates havoc on the QB.

Our DB are out of place all the time..... If they weren't out of place how come there are WIDE open guys downfield all the time today? Players aren't were they are suppose to be..
