The New York Jets are working out free-agent QB Marvin Burroughs (Villanova) during the team's weekend minicamp.
He's gotta be just a camp QB. No way he makes the roster.
Fifteen years ago after an especially disappointing loss to Miami, Esiason, then the Jets' quarterback, was making the seven-mile drive from the Meadowlands back to Manhattan.
While he was slogging through stop-and-go traffic at the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel, the car next to him was violently rear-ended. The quarterback threw his car into park, hopped out and ran to the woman whose car had been hit. She was wearing, of all things, an Esiason jersey, and was utterly shocked when he tapped on her window to check on her.
"Are you OK?" he said, trying to keep calm. "Are you OK?"
"Boomer? Is that you?" she asked the Good Samaritan, sounding disoriented. "I think I'm OK, but . ... "
But what?
"But you guys sucked."

No doubt, but you have to wonder why so many...he makes 5 (not counting Brad Smith) and I think we even have one in NFLE.

No...I don't think there is any wondering involved...he is training camp arm...there are a lot of recievers and this way they can all keep practicing.

The guy will be nothing more than a camp arm or if he's lucky, he may get signed to the practice squad after final cuts are made.

It's conceivable that the Jets might have heard from someone that Burroughs is a sleeper, so they decided to take a look for themselves. Plus give their receivers another QB to throw them the ball. At this point of the year, you have the time to take a look at just about anybody available who you've heard anything good about.
Nobody knows more than the Jets how quickly the QB situation can change due to injury or ineffectiveness. The more people you look at, the better in case something comes up.
