The good news for us is that here is another team that will be switching to the 4-3 from a 3-4. More players that won't fit there system will be out on the street for our taking!!!
Couple that with the possibility that Parcells leaves...there may be a plethora of 3-4 players out in the FA ranks for us after June 1st cuts or sooner!

I heard that the Steelers might end up cutting Porter because they arent in a good cap situation. If that happens hopefully Mr.T jumps all over him!
wow we can only pray for a guy like that to fall into our laps, steelers would be retarded to let him go..........................having him and vilma on the same team makes my mouth water.....

I know, if he does hit the UFA, then we better get out there and get him, he is a tremendous player. Would be a instant upgrade over Hobson. That would be a sick pair of pass rush between Thomas and Porter. Our defense would be improved alot!!

It hasn't happened yet. There are conflicting stories. See the article below.
PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers have narrowed their wish list of candidates to replace Bill Cowher to three names -- Russ Grimm, Ron Rivera and Mike Tomlin -- but have not yet made a decision on their next head coach.
A report on Sports Illustrated's Web site, SI.com, on Saturday indicated that Tomlin had been chosen as the successor to Cowher, but the Vikings' defensive coordinator told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that no decision had been made.
"It is untrue," Tomlin said of the report. "I have no idea where it's coming from. I have not talked to the Rooneys today."
Sources also told ESPN.com's John Clayton that the report was incorrect, and the Steelers are not expected to make a decision Saturday.
The team also did not confirm the report Saturday.
"We have heard all the rumors, and we have nothing to confirm at this point," Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Tomlin and Grimm, the only remaining in-house candidate, both had their second interviews earlier this week. The Steelers can't talk to Rivera again until the Bears are eliminated from the playoffs. Chicago plays New Orleans in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Are we even sure they're going to switch to a 4-3?
Isn't that a pretty big assumption? Sure Tomlin was very successful with his 4-3...but that doesn't mean he wouldn't keep the 3-4. I'll wait and see before I get excited about the Steelers maybe trading Hampton.

I heard on ESPN Radio today that no deal had been made. Would be a big hit to the Queens to lose Tomlin after have a good defensive season. I think that Pittsburgh will bring in Tomlin or Rivera and stay with defensive head coaches. The only way I see Grimm becoming head coach is if Pittsburgh feels he will go elsewhere unless he's the head coach, and I don't think that Russ Grimm has that sort of mentality.

u do realize he is smaller and older then a.thomas right? not to mention probably not as good
it would allow us to trade up for a guy like marshawn lynch because olb would be taken care of ....a.thomas is 29 and joey porter is 29....... a.thomas 6-2 270lbs, joey porter is 6-3 250lbs, joey porter is the champ bailey of the olb position.........porter was injured alot this season

If the jets got Hampton I would do a little dance. He is a top notch NT.

Thanks for the Memories

If the Steelers would trade Hampton, I would give them Robertson and a 3rd round pick for him! Our defense would be set with him in the middle!!! And its official, Tomlin did sign with the Steelers, go look at it on Espn.com
I heard their DE Smith might be cutted also, I would love to sign him, he is a real force at DE. Man I wish we could just trade some of our 4-3 players and get some of their 3-4 players!

Whilst their players are 3-4 players they aren't just going to go out and cut three top quality defensive players just because they don't fit the system. It would be idiotic for them just to cut Porter without first looking to find a trading partner, the same with Smith and Hampton. Plus it will take more than a 3rd rounder and DRob to get Hampton, it would probably take a 2nd and a player. Also Hampton could also play as a 4-3 DT as he is good against the run.
Tomlin isn't just going to dump three top quality defensive players just because they haven't played in the 4-3. Porter has the size to be a 4-3 MLB or could possibly be moved to DE whilst Aaron Smith is a shade over 300lbs so could be moved to the under tackle in a 4-3.
