NFL Europe is a farm system for talent that doesnt make the NFL out of college and for international athletes to try to break into the NFL. The NFL is a on a different level. They wouldn't compete against NFL teams

He'd make up a fake media pass and go into the Barcelona Flabberjabits or the Prague Pussywhippers locker room and stare in amazement at Smith while he was taking a shower

It's the NFL's version of MLB's Minor League. Just like stated, it's a farm to essentially try and raise talent that just isn't at NFL level yet.

Nah. Its a minor league system really. Now if they were to make thier own leagues and started developing players and such, THEN they could make a serious run and we could quite possible see football become an olympic sport. But don't bet on either, soccer is too big over there and football would die to fast.

NFL Europe will never be on a par with the NFL and will remain a feeder league. The league has been in decline the last few years with teams in London, Scotland and Barcelona folding over the last decade and only 6 teams remain - 5 in Germany and 1 in Holland. It isn't that popular around Europe and the crowds in Germany and Holland are relatively modest.
It is league where the NFL develops talent and also where European, Asian and Mexican players showcase their skills. However the non-American players find it hard to get into the NFL as they aren't connected to any team. The league has taken a step to get these players into the NFL by allocating I think 8 a season to practice squads around the league and they have to remain on them for the whole season.
Next year a regular season game should be coming to Europe - either in London or Germany which will no doubt raise the profile of the game but it is still very much a minority sport over here. The regular season game will definitely sell out but interest in the game won't propel the sport to a level where millions of kids start playing it and the only way NFLE becomes on a par with the NFL is if millions of kids take it up.

Teams send over mainly 5th to 7th round picks, practice squad guys and street FAs that went undrafted the previous year (training camp fodder basically). Last year the biggest name to go over was Drew Henson but he had played less football in the pros than Smith.

IMO it can be a useful tool and I'd like to see more Jets sent over as in the past KC have had guys come back from NFLE and be successful in the pros such as Dante Hall. It has been a good place in the past to develop OLine talent too.

NFLE is a 10 game season therefore the chances of injury are great and it would also mean he wouldn't be in proper shape for training camp due to the wear and tear he would suffer.
