There are two different styles you can do. Either dumbbells or barbell. I decided to try dumbbell style.
If you never have tried overhead squats before, it is not that hard to learn. Basically you just hold the dumbbell or barbell extended overhead like you are doing a military press and go into a squat.
You don’t need much weight for this core strength exercise. The technique is the key for success and not how much weight you use.
This effective abdominal exercise works all the core muscles. The abdominal and lower back. It also hits the upper back because you are stabilizing the weights above your head. I usually don’t feel much in the lower body because I believe you are not using enough weight to stimulate the legs.
I started my strength-training workout with the overhead squat. Because of it’s lightweight it seem to warm up the muscles a bit before hitting it hard with heavy weight deadlifts and my power clean routine.
