Finally completing a trade that had been rumored for weeks, the New York Jets on acquired runningback Chris Brown from the Tennessee Titans for a third-round choice in the 2007 draft, ESPN.com has learned.
Given the uncertainty over the availability of Curtis Martin, who is rehabilitating from knee surgery, the Jets considered a variety of options for bolstering their runningback depth chart. As recently as earlier Sunday, the Jets were still in discussions about a trade that would have brought them Bears backup runningback Thomas Jones in a deal that would have sent a 3rd round pick and a conditional pick in the 2007 NFL draft. Monday morning however, the Jets came to Terms with the Titans to complete a deal. also targeted was Marcel Shipp. Rumors about Lee Suggs turned out to be false.
New York coaches feel confident, after doing extended research on Brown, that he is a starting-caliber runningback in the league. If Martin is unable to play at the outset of the season, Brown likely will be the starter.
The Jets inherit Brown's existing contract, which has just one season remaining, at a base salary of $1.68 million for 2006.
Ok this is my last joke like this. its just too funny to see people fall for it, but now its starting to be cruel.
