Fulham Set To Bag Gooch
American defender Oguchi Onyewu is believed to be closing in on a move to Premiership club Fulham.
The Cottagers already have a strong USA contingent with Carlos Bocanegra and Brian McBride in their ranks and they now look set to add to that.
New England Revolution winger Clint Dempsey is awaiting a work-permit for his move to the Premiership and fellow countryman Onyewu looks set to follow.
Onyewu saw a summer move to England collapse when Middlesbrough pulled the plug on a post World Cup deal, but Fulham always maintained an interest in the 24-year-old and they have now made their move.
Standard Liege made an agreement with Onyewu in August that they would not stand in his way during this transfer window after a bid from Real Madrid was snubbed because it came too late for them to find a replacement.
A new bid from the Spanish giants has failed to materialise and Fulham now look set to seal a deal for the central defender known as 'Gooch'.
"I know the agreement which we made in August with Gooch, as I was the technical director," coach Michael Preud'homme told HLN.
Onyewu is now reported to be undergoing a medical in West London with a view to sealing a move to Craven Cottage in the near future.
Standard are already looking at possible replacements for Onyewu and Croatian veteran Igor Tudor has emerged as likely candidate.
"A possible substitute could be Tudor," admitted Preud'homme.

He's a big defender who can move around I can see him doing well in th EPL.
I think he's going to be a top 3 defender in the Premiership. Hes got tremendous skills to go along with his large frame which is a deadly combination for forwards.

Fulham love their American players as they already have Bocanegra who is a solid player and McBride who I feel is underrated. McBride holds the ball well up front and despite not getting the goals all the time he is a clever player who is extremely tough.
Aren't Fulham also being linked with Clint Dempsey as well?

Yes they are, I think they're set to sign him as well and are just waiting for a work permit. It think Carlos, Gooch and Dempsey on the same pitch every game will be excellent for chemistry, not to mention their own individual growth.

So that will mean London will have two foreign teams nearly.
Arsenal are the resident French team in the Premier League whilst Fulham will be the US team but not quite to the extent of which Arsenal is foreign.
