ganggreen2003 Icon : (17 November 2014 - 06:55 PM) I predict he'll be a shell of himself and in 5 years he will be horrible player and the $ will still be weighing down the Marlins for the remainder of the contract
ganggreen2003 Icon : (17 November 2014 - 07:06 PM) 3 years ago I would of considered this kind of contract but after what happened to him this season and how he might be shocked to step into the batters box in 2015 is a HUGE risk when a team gives them $325 million

Just wanted to point out that my boy Tony Hunt won MVP of the Senior Bowl with 1TD on 39 yrds rushing on 8 carries, he had 50 total yards and generally impressed scouts all week. Concensus is that he has improved himself enough to be a top 5 back in the draft and with an impressive 40 time he could be as high as 3. He probably wont get higher than the 2nd round, but with an impressive showing in workouts a team might be willing to take a chance early second round. With our two second round picks would it be far fethed to think that one of them could be on Curtis Martin 2.0? Maybe, but I like the idea being a Penn Stater and a Jets fan. Maybe I am blinded by my allegiences, but at least now he's no longer overlooked.
I changed my name, but I dont remember what it was... if anyone remembers please let me know.

I love that Avatar. If you was a real Jets fan you would be pushing for Kellen over Brad because Kellen will give you the best chance for success.

Praise heh Kellen!.

As for Hunt I'm proud of him. Like I said before he's Larry Johnson without the blazing speed. At 4.56 it's not take it to the house speed but neither was Curtis Martin. I like hunt... I strongly believe that we can't go wrong at RB this year as all will be successful. A.D, Lynch, Bush,Hunt I think will all be damn good pros. or even if it's Turner. I think we will do well.

What do McNabb and Smith have in common? Other than being black and being college QB's...

Why not Steve Young upside....oh...I know...because Steve Young isn't black so they couldn't possibly be similiar...

PS - No one ever said Smith had McNabb upside...

Remember he was a 4th round special teamer/WR/gadget player. Not drafted as a Q.B if he had been who knows where he would have been drafted

what scouts even had brad smith had any upside as a nfl qb. everywhere i saw him ranked, he was projected to either be an udfa as qb or get drafted to be a wr, like the jets did. please, just stop. the stupidity is slowing my computer down.

Here are some scouting reports on the Messiah from college

Ht: 6-2 Wt 208 40: 4.5

Pos: Athletic prospect whose play has recently leveled off at the quarterback position. Possesses a live arm, zips passes into targets or easily makes the throw on the move. Sets up with solid footwork, looks downfield and drives passes with a flick of the rest. Picks up a lot of yardage with his legs. Puts touch on throws when necessary.

Neg: Must significantly improve his downfield accuracy and overall pass placement. Not poised under pressure, incorrectly reads the defense and forces the ball into coverage.

Analysis: Initially looking like a star in the making as a sophomore, Smith's play has leveled off the past few seasons. May ultimately change positions and could be used as a receiver. Underlying athletic skills make him worth a look.

(I just want to say it's amazing how Smith runs a 4.3 30 and a 4.5 40 crazy.gif )

This one is from NFL Draft Countdown but the link is expired.

Height: 6-2 | Weight: 213 | 40-Time: 4.46

Official Bio

Strengths:
Outstanding natural athlete...A terror to defend and a threat to run at any time...Electric and a gamebreaker...Has a pretty good arm...Very instinctive runner...Incredibly productive...Smart and a very mature young man...A team leader with top intangibles...Experienced as a four-year starter...A gamer who comes up big in the clutch...Has some untapped upside at a different position.

Weaknesses:
Extremely inconsistent as a passer...Stares down his targets...Lacks timing and touch on his passes...Not very accurate...Struggles to read defenses and will have to adjust to a pro style offense...Does not have the type of elite speed you'd tend to think...Average size for a QB...Raw and a developmental prospect.

Notes:
One of the most prolific run / pass threats in college football history...A much better athlete than quarterback who will almost certainly have to change positions at the next level with wide receiver or running back as possibilities.

Who the hell said he had "McNabb upside"? Please send me a link. If Brad Smith is so great then why did the Jets pick Clemens in the second round instead of Brad Smith.

Back on Tony Hunt...being named the Senior Bowl MVP apparently doesn't require much. He didn't do anything really...and looked realy sluggish to me. Sure he can pound it...but if you saw that one time they lined him up as a WR...it looked like he was in slow motion with how slow his legs moved.

Not a fan...sluggish is the word to describe...he's big...but doesn't have the quick feet like Bettis had to be successful.

Or like someone else in this draft class, Mciahael Bush. Hes pretty fleet footed and should drop to us seeing that he broke his leg and all but not a career threatening injury like a tear, hopefully to the second round s that in the first we pick up a olb/de

If Curtis Martin was the 4th leading rusher in NFL history, he would have been a first rounder, not a 3rd rounder.

That argument doesn't work.

Still, you can see the arm strength, balance and body control that could help him develop into an effective pro quarterback. All he needs is a patient coach who canrevamp his mechanics. Combine that with his pocket movement ability and you have a very interesting prospect who could also develop into a Donovan McNabb type if allowed to stay at the quarterback position.

Yeah because balance and body control are absolute necessities for QB's......................................

No...they're not...the things he isn't good at...those are what is necessary for a successful QB...

"Not poised under pressure, incorrectly reads the defense and forces the ball into coverage. "

"Extremely inconsistent as a passer...Stares down his targets...Lacks timing and touch on his passes...Not very accurate...Struggles to read defenses and will have to adjust to a pro style offense."

Come on man...give it a rest...it is not happening. You said balance and body control...ya know what those two traits are great for? A WR...they're a necessity to being a good WR...so let him be a WR.

From the same article: Damn Smith is pigheaded over the whole QB thing. I really think BradSmith16 is his cousin or something now lol

INDIANAPOLIS -- Corby Jones believes Brad Smith is making a big mistake. In fact, it's a million-dollar mistake, according to Jones.

Smith is at the Scouting Combine this week, intent on being a quarterback in the NFL. As a quarterback at Missouri, Smith became the only player in Division I college football history to pass for 8,000 yards and run for 4,000 yards in a career. But he completed just 56.3 percent of his passes.

Jones is a former Missouri quarterback who is now an attorney in Kansas City and breaking into the sports agent business. At the combine, Jones was blunt when asked about Smith.

"He's killing himself (by insisting he wants to be a quarterback)," Jones said. "If he concentrated on being a wide receiver, he'd be a second-round pick. And he can do it. He has the feet and the speed. But he doesn't have what it takes to be an NFL quarterback."

Jones faced the same situation when he left Missouri after the 1998 season. Some scouts thought he could be a running back, some a safety. But Jones wanted to be a quarterback, too.

"If I had to do it all over again, I would've agreed to play whatever," he said.

He ended up going to the Canadian League, and later was briefly on Baltimore's practice squad as a safety. At Missouri's football dinner several weeks ago, Jones said he talked to Smith.

Said Jones, "I said you'll always have an opportunity to go play quarterback someplace. With him, particularly, he's a better athlete than I was. He could be a second-round pick at wide receiver if he agrees to do it."

Said one league personnel executive, "He shows a lot of promising qualities. But the things that make him good at quarterback are the things that are attractive at other positions - wide receiver or running back. Because he wins games with his legs."

Despite what Jones said, Smith was just as forceful when talking about his goals.

"I feel like I'm a quarterback and can be a great quarterback down the line in the league with the opportunity to develop and learn a system," he said. "I want to play quarterback, that's where my heart is.

"It's flattering to hear people say they think I can play another position because of my athleticism. I'm a team player, so it would be something as I'm learning or as I'm helping the team out at quarterback, that I would maybe help somebody in that sense."

Asked about college quarterbacks like Matt Jones and Antwaan Randle-El, who each were selected as wide receivers in the draft, Smith said, "We're different players. They do different things. I'm aware of all the guys and all their situations. I just don't see myself in that sense, in the way I think, in the way I play, I believe is a little different than other guys. It's hard to put me in a box in that sense.

"It comes down to an individual. And me, as a person, and working at something your whole life and having dreams of doing something and being committed at the best you can be at anything, that's something that's important to me. It doesn't matter what anyone else has done."

A WR...they're a necessity to being a good WR...so let him be a WR.

can you not understand the term develop smith plus the things he is good at are natural gifts that you have or you don't his weaknesses have nothing to do with ability and since when do wr's need arm strength
