QUOTE
Two sides to the Kendall story

By Dan Leberfeld

Posted May 6, 2007

It's not just the Jets who have soured a little on guard Pete Kendall.

He isn't too happy with them either.

According Yahoo Sport's Jason Cole, a big reason why the Jets were trying to trade Kendall during the draft, is his desire for a raise.

"Kendall and agent Neil Schwartz have been trying to renegotiate his contract with the Jets, hoping for a raise of approximately $1 million," wrote Cole. "Kendall, who has three years remaining on his Jets deal after restructuring it a year ago, is scheduled to earn $1.7 million this year.

"Kendall has been unhappy with his contract since seeing the sharp rise in free-agent deals for interior linemen this offseason. Among the guards who will earn more than $6 million after signing new contracts are Kris Dielman with San Diego, Derrick Dockery with Buffalo and Eric Steinbach with Cleveland."

It's highly unlikely that the Jets will give Kendall more money, especially since, in a story broken by this website, some team officials consider him a "clubhouse lawyer."

So you get the idea that neither side is thrilled with the other for different reasons. So a parting of the ways could be in the offing.

We still have extra money I don't know why the FO are being bums just give the guy a little extra raise. With bums like Steinbach getting a lot of money I think Kendall deserves a some extra too I don't know what the big deal is he's a very important guy to keep and i we lost him the team would take a step backwards.

Kendall is old, and there is not much left in his tank, so it would be a bad return on investment to give him a raise when he won't be here for very long. It's not like Kendall is some All-pro player, he is solid, but nothing spectacular.

Id give him a raise if it allowed for us to restructure his contract, front load it, and give us an opportunity to dump him next season.

And what exactly does "clubhouse lawyer" mean??

A clubhouse lawyer is the same as a barracks lawyer. They think they know everything and try to give everyone advise on what they should do. Sometimes it's good advise and sometimes it is bad advise that ends up making situations worse for everyone.

Bums like Steinbach? Eric Steinbach is a much better guard than Pete Kendall ever was. I like Kendall, but he didn't have a great season last year and he's gonna be 34 when the season starts. I'm beginning to understand why the FO is talking about trading or possibly cutting him.

Great points and I agree 100%. I never thought about it like that but 100% true. He's old and coming off a mediocre season and he's wants top flight money?? He's got to be kidding!

all teams have player reps . the Nfl likes to keep thier players young and dumb so they can easily be swindled. kevin Mawae was the prvious plaer rep and they sent him packing because the new regime needs total control of players minds in order to implement their program.
