First, Herm Edwards wasn't a bad coach. He did what even Bill Parcells couldn't do: guide the Jets in to the playoffs for two consecutive years, anas well as two playoff victories. If you look at all of the Jets' past coaches besides Weeb Ewbank, he actually ranks right up there.

For Woody Johnson to refuse to pay Herm Edwards the money he wanted was stupid. To refuse to pay Pete Kendall the money he wanted was stupid (that's why Chad Pennington is injured right now). Woody Johnson is a tightwad and it is costing the team. I don't think the guy really cares that much about winning as much as he does saving money.

As far as the rest of the front office goes, Mike Tannenbaum and Eric Mangini, for blowing the whistle on Belichick, are idiots, especially during a game in which the Pats would have won anyway. Spying or not, in the first two games, the Jets defense has SUCKED. That's what the Jets should be focusing on (no turnovers or sacks, and not even any pressure on opposing QBs so far). Perhaps the base 3-4 D was the wrong idea. Anyway, this season is going to be just like every other season for Gang Green: a waste of time. Hiring Mangini was a mistake.

The only thing I don't like about Mangini is that he is wanting to use the 34 when we have a highly talented 43 MLB.

Once I saw the part where he said Herm Edwards wasn't a bad coach I basically started laughing so hard I fell off my chair and banged my head. I woke up 18 hours later in South America with my kidney missing. I would be in a bad mood right now if it wasn't for the Herm edwards being a good coach comment. Herm Edwards = Good coach - Awwwww shit, here comes the uncontrollable laughter again. See you in 18 hours!!!!!!!!!!! funny.gif

Well he is more accustomed and more comfortable with the 3-4 from NE.

Yeah but the defensive players aren't, and until he has the personel to effectively play the 3-4 (and he hasn't really taken any big steps in signing 3-4 players since he's been around, Kenyon Coleman and David Harris are 3-4 players but it's just not enough at the moment), he should be playing a 4-3. Ok fair enough, he's used to the 3-4 scheme but come on, he's a professional football coach, it's not like he doesn't know sh!t about the 4-3, he most likely has a good amount of knowledge on that as well. Pittsburgh has 3-4 players, so even though Mike Tomlin may have been raised on the 4-3, they're sticking with the 3-4 for the time being because that's what the defence is equipped to play. They'll most likely transition to the 4-3 gradually, as they build up on 4-3 weapons.

Mangini probably realises that the Defence still ain't ready for his system. I think it's more a case of him wanting to come in, make it his team, and if someone has a problem with him using the 3-4, he's basically just saying tough sh!t because he wants to do things his way. I understand that he needs a couple years to paint the picture he has in his head, I just think the fact that he refuses to play to our strengths until we have the amount of 3-4 weapons that make defences like the Pats and the Chargers good (e.g. for starters, a standard 3-4 Nose Tackle) is pointless and just plain bad coaching (not saying he's a bad coach, just think this aspect of his coaching is poor).

I can agree with your post here. except he has hand picked most of the guys on the team already and he is accountable for all the loses and should get credit for any wins we may get but Billichick has proven over the last 3 years that he can communicate his winning ways with no name players off the street.

I haven't posted on this site in a day or two, but I can't even believe that this is still a hot topic. Can any of the mods just end it?

Jason Fabini would probably still be the LT and John Abraham would still be riding the bench being injured.

I'm sorry, I didn't start this to get fellow Jets fans mad. I am not a fan of another team, I've been a Jets fans for over 25+ years. I'm simply saying that the Jets don't have a good team this year, and we have to accept it. The Jets' front office made some very bad moves this off-season; their coaching isn't that good this year; and both their offense and defense has been lousy so far. Can anyone disagree with me? I know they've played some pretty good teams so far, but what's going on? Their play has been pathetic. A lot of you people on this site or very young. However, I'm old. I've lived too many years of hearing how the Jets "will be a good team, just give it a few more years." I've lived through many of those "few more years," and it's never happened.

The Patriots did it (in 2002 against the Rams, the Pats had even less talent than the Jets, and they won the SB). My point is that we put ourselves through too much suffering.

The Patriots are also better than they were in 2002 and they're sitting on top of us. What offseason moves were bad? Kenyon Coleman? Nope. Darelle Revis? Nope. David Harris. Well that one remains to be seen. Cutting Kimo? Nope. Sure we didn't overpay some players, but oh well.
