azjetfan Icon : (Yesterday, 03:43 PM) I think we need to fire more people. Like Justin Beiber
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 04:22 PM) Kareem Jackson is a decent player, I would rather go elsewhere for CB though> He has been a streaky player, some bad seasons some good
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (Yesterday, 06:23 PM) THE KNICKS
Chaos Icon : (Yesterday, 06:43 PM) @AdamSchefter: Filed to ESPN: Bills have notified LB Kiko Alonso he is going to be traded to Philadelphia for RB LeSean McCoy. Trade official next week.
Chaos Icon : (Yesterday, 06:43 PM) WOW. Rex is gearing up for ground and pound.
Chaos Icon : (Yesterday, 06:44 PM) Jets can sign Spiller now but they're going to need a new LB. Rex is gunning for David Harris.
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (Yesterday, 07:44 PM) Jets should trade Harris to Minnesota for Minnesota for AP
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (Yesterday, 07:44 PM) Throw in Ivory/Powell or a pick
ganggreen2003 Icon : (Yesterday, 07:45 PM) Damn they got Shady
ganggreen2003 Icon : (Yesterday, 07:45 PM) Do NOT give up Ivory
ganggreen2003 Icon : (Yesterday, 07:45 PM) Powell ok Ivory HELL NO
ganggreen2003 Icon : (Yesterday, 07:50 PM) Well that definitely opens the door for CJ Spiller to the JETS now that the Jills got Shady
ROBJETS Icon : (Today, 05:12 AM) Spiller is a joke. 99 % of the time he gets tackled for a loss or a 1 or 2 yard gain maximum. He breaks a run here and there. he had one good year in his whole career. their is a reason he is a backup and not the starter. I suggest you guys that believe Spiller has anything to offer go through the play by play game logs. I did and he is horrendous.
ROBJETS Icon : (Today, 05:14 AM) Spiller cannot break a tackle period. I broke down last years game logs of his runs in a thread last year. He isn't even a pass catching rb. Fred Jackson catches most of the running back passes.
ROBJETS Icon : (Today, 05:20 AM) Unless Spiller comes tremendously cheap no thank you. Wouldn't pay more than a one year deal worth 1 million at most. All he has is speed. Not even on Sproles level. His stats are inflated. For instance he has 10 runs in a game and 9 of them are losses are or 1-2 yard runs. Then he breaks one on the outside for 40-70 yards. Not reliable at all. Even when he break one he is guaranteed a td
ROBJETS Icon : (Today, 05:21 AM) Even in his 1200 yard rushing year he only had 6 tds rushing and 2 receiving
ROBJETS Icon : (Today, 05:23 AM) Spiller is only valuable as a special teams player. Period By year 2010 ) tds rshng 1 rcvng 283 yards rshng
ROBJETS Icon : (Today, 05:31 AM) meant 0 tds rushing in 2010, 2011 4 tds 561 yards rushing 2tds receiving, 2012 6tds 1244 rushing 2 tds receiving, 2013 2tds 933 yards rushing 0tds receiving, 2014 0tds 300 yards rushing 1td receiving.
ROBJETS Icon : (Today, 05:41 AM) His stats look decent on paper but if you actually go through the game logs of his career like I did his stats are extremely inflated. For instance one game last year he had 10 attempts for 8 yards another 4 attempts for -4 yards, another 6 attempts for 19 yards, another 10 attempts for 25 yards.Another game he had 12 games for 69 yards but 47 of it was on one play. Point is he sucks as a running back. Who wants a rb that gets stopped 99% of the time and breaks one play fir a long run. We need reliable backs not a slim chance of him breaking one
santana Icon : (Today, 08:06 AM) "NFL released its first 2015 League Year cap report to teams. Teams w/most room: 1) Jaguars $64.058M; 2) Jets $52.901; 3) Raiders $52.598M."
santana Icon : (Today, 08:06 AM) #2 baby
santana Icon : (Today, 08:07 AM) WE DID IT!
santana Icon : (Today, 08:07 AM) thnx idzik
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (Today, 08:09 AM) RE-HIRE IDZIK
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (Today, 08:10 AM) Well in all fairness, when I think about the Jets I do think about number two
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 08:30 AM) FIRE MACCAGNAN
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 08:30 AM) The Jaguars hired John Idzik for his expertise in contract negotiating
Chaos Icon : (Today, 08:36 AM) ppl are going to get paid this offseason.
Chaos Icon : (Today, 08:36 AM) so many teams have space
Chaos Icon : (Today, 08:39 AM) eagles have 48M in cap space. Chip is going to go HAM this offseason.

San Diego Chargers offense is no match for Rex Ryan, New York Jets' scheme

SAN DIEGO - It was a textbook playbook. It followed the formula of what Rex Ryan calls Jets football, a masterpiece of a defensive game plan - executed with brute artistry - that made it possible for the offense to play its old-school game and eventually put the game away.

Ryan and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine emptied the playbook and shut down one of the league's most explosive offenses by confusing Philip Rivers yesterday. They took the Chargers out of their comfort zone and San Diego self-destructed with uncharacteristic penalties, mistakes and turnovers.

The Jets didn't just force the Chargers to play their game. They forced them to lose their game, 17-14. And now Peyton Manning has a lot to mull over as he prepares for this defense in next Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

Ryan was so impressed, he felt the need to "apologize to our fans for going to soft at the end of the game," when they worked the clock, played zone and allowed the Chargers to score a second touchdown.

"Their defense was perfect," San Diego running back LaDainian Tomlinson said.

It was so confusing to the Chargers, quarterback Philip Rivers called two timeouts before the first quarter was over.

The Jets played seven, even eight defensive backs and blitzed from every direction, bringing more people than the Chargers could block and forcing Rivers to settle for underneath receivers, outlets and hot reads.

The Chargers' three big-play weapons - wideout Vincent Jackson, tight end Antonio Gates and running back Darren Sproles - never made their presence felt. The Jets did what no other team was able to do all year: they contained all three.

While Darrelle Revis wasn't on Jackson exclusively, he had him on what Ryan called "tough downs" and made one of the key plays of the game. Rivers, trying to cash in on a Mark Sanchez interception, threw up one of his patented jump balls to the 6-5 receiver. Revis stripped the ball and came up with the interception with a fortunate bounce off Jackson's leg and into his arms.

"We were playing a lot of man coverage on (Revis') side regardless of who the receiver was. And on the other side we were running some located zones and mixes and things like that," Ryan explained.

The Jets played what Ryan called "one and a half" coverage on Sproles, with "one guy on him and a half a guy spying him," and limited his production in the passing game to three catches for 30 yards. Sproles had 33 rushing yards, but inexplicably got only three carries while Tomlinson rushed 12 times for 24 yards - the fifth time in seven career playoff games he's been held under 50.

Gates, meanwhile, was held to eight catches for 93 yards and was never able to get down the field.

The Chargers' only touchdowns came on a pass to third-string tight end Kris Wilson and a 1-yard run by Rivers, and San Diego was held under 20 points for the first time all season.

"They do a lot of different things," Gates said. "You look up and there are two down linemen and nine guys walking around."

That, said Norv Turner, had the Chargers scrambling to get into the right protections, which led to false starts.

According to safety Kerry Rhodes, the turning point came in the second quarter when the Jets started playing more man coverage. The Chargers had scored by then on a four-play drive to take a 7-0 lead, thanks to a throwback screen against the grain to Gates and a blown coverage for the TD to Wilson as he found a hole in the zone. Rivers was 13-for-19 for 159 yards in the first half, 14-for-21 for 139 with two interceptions in the second.

"We started playing more man and got in their face," said Rhodes, who had a lot more responsibility for Gates after the change of philosophy. "It took away from their timing. In zone, they were running around and getting free."

At halftime, the Jets defenders prevailed upon Ryan to stay man and come after Rivers.

"Turn us loose," said DE Marques Douglas.

"We got a little more aggressive," Rhodes said. "We told coach and we started playing some Cover One and Cover Zero."

Turner, as it turned out, played right into the Jets' hands. It almost seemed the Chargers were force-feeding Tomlinson with poor results, especially when they tried to follow the Bengals' lead by running against the Jets' sub packages. Dominance on first down allowed the Jets' defense to dominate third. The Chargers were 4-for-13 on third-down conversions, rarely facing short-yardage situations.

"We believed they were a finesse football team," linebacker Bart Scott said. "We wanted to make sure we made them know that every time they got tackled to be looking. Those hard hits set a tone. It made some guys start hearing some footsteps."

Eventually, the offense started playing Jets football as well, thanks to the scoreboard. After four straight three-and-outs and six straight punts, the Jets, down just 7-0, were still able to keep pounding the football and leave Sanchez with manageable down and distance for the most part. Shonn Greene's 53-yard TD burst was the breaking point but it couldn't have come if Sanchez had been forced to match throws with Rivers.

"It's a matter of time when we're doing what we want to do, pounding the ball, until it falls in our favor," said center Nick Mangold. "We call it chopping the tree. It took a little longer but we got it done."

I think Rex and his D-Coord might be writing a new dynamic before our very eyes. If the Jets D can neutralize Manning and his crew on "do or die"-day, I will have no choice but to consider those two the most cutting-edge minds for defense in the NFL. Period.

There's a shit-ton of prep like everyone else, but it's the chess game that has me so intrigued. Serious minds at work. I love it. Hell, if I could, I'd lend you 1993-97 Derrick Thomas for the rest of the season just to see what Rex could do with him.

And I mean that.
