Folks need to be reminded of the military FPS game outside the Call of Duty franchise. This is not a comparison post, though. I like MW2 (sorry, 518), and I like MAG for totally different reasons.
This is the kinda game the PS3 needed to make their online video game network feel real. I can't tell you how long I've been playing games online with people who had no mics and didn't care to communicate. This post-CoD world of commando players, running and gunning with no objective other than to kill more than you is cool, but this is a different experience.
In this game, you lose if you don't work together.
You load the game up, pick an army according to your taste (I'm in RAVEN), and start wrecking shit almost immediately.
I've seen people complain about the graphics, but I haven't really been unimpressed with everything. The textures are all strong, there's visibility in the distance, and it's pretty damn comparable to most online shooters. Any shortcomings are forgivable when you're talking about playing games that hold up to 256 PEOPLE in ONE round.
Lag. Doesn't exist for me yet. I've never jumped around the screen, and never faced anyone who has.
Guns. I think the hit detection could be a bit better and I'd like to see players actually slow down and feel the effects of being shot, if we're selling realism.
Strategy. You lose if you don't have it. Every squad I've been on, we won because the squad leader communicated and the platoon leader gave good orders. Everything from dudes being appointed to offer suppressive fire and be distractions to dudes responsible for reviving downed soldiers has worked, regardless of skill level.
Seriously. For the four of you here with a PS3. Buy this game.
