It's good that he's going to sign and finally report but I still don't like how he became so much more important than the team.

How is wanting a 10 yr 162 million dollar deal not thinking he's bigger than the team when it completely makes it virtually impossible to re-sign the other players that are going to need deals? Even with the reported/speculated 10 yr/150 million/65M guaranteed deal, that almost automatically guarantees that we lose necessary pieces of the puzzle.
I'm with FrontRow in that if we win it all this year, I'd love to see us dump him and keep the players that have shown they want to be a Jet rather than wanting to get paid.

We will have money tied into our most important positions, minus Sanchez. In our defense you need Revis, any team needs a cornerstone LT and C. We have them all for MANY years to come.
We aren't resigning these guys because "it's an all or nothing year for the Jets"

Okay. Why is it automatic that in our Defense we need Revis? What has Wilson given up? I know he hasnt exactly been tested really and that he's no Revis but we can now say that Al Davis & Darrelle MEvis have just completely changed the landscape for ANY position player.
You're right. We're going to have money tied up into our most important positions, but 25% of our total cap space on three players? What do we do for the other 50 players on the team? What's going to happen in 2012 when Sanchez is due a new contract? Are we going to have between 40% & 50% of our total cap space tied up in a total of 4 players? Don't just think this year but think of the future implications Revis' contract has on the team.
We're not resigning these guys because its an all or nothing year, but I guarantee that we will not be able to re-sign everyone we'll need to. Jenkins likely retires so that opens up nominal space. Harris is likely gone as is Ellis. Either Edwards or Holmes will be gone. LT will be gone. Cromartie will likely be gone even if he does have a monster year with us. More like ESPECIALLY if he has a monster year because Revis is setting a new standard for payment for a premiere corner. We're going to lose people on both sides of our lines. That's going to hurt this team, so you cant really say that this isnt an all or nothing year.

They'll find ways to move money around and open cap space, locking Revis, Mangold, and Ferguson up makes this offseason a success IMO, a HUGE success.

I agree. They'll be totally content to have 15% of the cap tied up in one of the best and greediest players in the league.

Exactly. Enough with the Wilson comparison, Wilson will be lucky enough to turn himself into a corner of Cromartie's stature, none the less Revis.
As for everyone else, you have to pay your best players ESPECIALLY at the positions we have them at.
We also won't lose Sanchez, that's the 4 most vital positions on our football team. CB, QB, C, LT.
Harris won't be a casualty, and even if he is it's because the team knows we can flourish with another (cheaper) ILB in there. Harris is great, but don't think he's some phenom. He's in a defense that can make him look good, next to a LB (Bart Scott) who eats his blockers for lunch.
As for Edwards or Holmes, I wouldn't care if we lost BOTH of them!!! Like I said before, I would not franchise tag either of those guys unless they have a huge break out year and really find chemistry with Sanchez.
This team is always going to TWO things well, run the ball and play defense. We've made HUGE steps if we sign Revis into being able to do that for next decade.
Think of the future implications that Revis' deal will have on this team? How many other players on our team are going to be in the running for POTY?
Think of the future implications BRICK'S deal has on the team, FlyHi. Look at what Mangold did, the same thing Brick did. Sacrifice.
We have a great group of coaches, front office and players on this team.

Revis can up his picks to around 8 potentially, and he's going into his FOURTH season!!! He's going to be shutting down other team's #1 on his OWN for the next decade for us!!

But yes, Cromartie has outstanding ball skills.
Leonhard was saying on Hard Knocks that in this defense the picks will come for safeties just by doing their jobs and being in position. Don't have to over pursue or try for them - just be ready when the ball is there. I don't need Revis to have a ton of picks as long as he continues to keep a high Passes Defended count relative to the times he's thrown at. Having Cro and Revis together should bring a lot of tipped interception chances for the rest of the D.

That was my point, sometimes you get lucky picks and sometimes QBs avoid you like the plague and you don't get many chances to get picks

I asked Johnson if there have been any recent meetings or negotiations, and he said the team and Revis' representatives have promised not to publicly discuss the matter. But Johnson said, again, to his knowledge, there have been no new developments.Lastly, I asked him if he expects Revis to report to the team anytime soon. Johnson said, to his knowledge, things remain "status quo."
There have been conflicting reports in the past few days regarding Revis' holdout. The New York Daily News reported Wednesday that the sides are close to coming to terms on a new deal.
The Dallas Morning News reported that Revis' agents and the Jets were supposed to meet Tuesday night, but the Daily News said there are strong indications that such a meeting never took place.
