Yesterday, it was speculated that the Jets might be interested in Seahawks WR TJ Houshmandzadeh. Well, now that speculation has turned into reality as The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Joe Reedy is reporting the Jets have made a trade offer for Houshmandzadeh. This according to a league source.

Per a league source, the Vikings, Jets, Chargers and Cardinals have made trade offers with the Seahawks for Houshmandzadeh.

As I said yesterday, this isn’t good news for David Clowney who has appeared to make the roster for now. Personally, I would prefer the Jets to pick up Laveranues Coles. Laveranues clearly knows the offense better, and has better chemistry with the guys in the locker room. Rex told Laveranues he expects him to be one of the leaders of this team. I find it hard to believe Houshmandzadeh can provide that type of leadership. As for what the Jets are offering, I my guess would be a late round draft pick. The Jets gave up a 5th round pick for Santonio Holmes, so I would expect a 6th or 7th round pick at best.

Stay tuned as this story develops..

This is a bad pick up. Not only is Housh on the down slope, but he's owed $7 mill guaranteed for 2010.

i jus wanna know why the hell we're even considerin this? we have 3 good receivers as it is, and yes one is suspended for 4 games but still we dont need another receiver. gonna be a worthless pick up thats for sure.

He'd be out #4 WR... I'd rather see Brad Smith out there. Plus that $7 mil can be used to sweeten the Revis deal.

Per ESPN.com...
His Seahawks contract includes offset language that makes Seattle liable to pay Houshmanzadeh whatever his new team doesn't.

So if Houshmanzadeh were to sign a veteran minimum deal of $850,000, the Seahawks would be liable for the remaining $6.15 million balance.

Seattle signed Houshmanzadeh to a five-year, $40 million contract last offseason, and Seattle will wind up having paid him $15 million for his one season with the Seahawks.
Something tells me Housh will be pretty pissed about being released and would gladly sign a minimum deal with his new team to force the Seahawks to pay the rest. If you can have Housh at the veteran minimum I think you take him.

Thinking past this year when B.E. and Holmes are not under contract i could see the possibility. But I dont think it will happen. Probably Tanny put the feelers out and someone caught wind.

Tanny prob just said what the hell and threw a 7th rounder out there, seeing if he could get lucky. I doubt he comes here.

anyone who thinks players get crewed think again. TJ made 15 mil for 1 season with seattle and they still owe him his full salary this year so he can make 22 million for 1 years work

They're not taking a 7th round pick for him. Stop dreaming. There were mitigating factors that led to Holmes being moved for a 5th.

They would have taken a 7th for him.

He was released.

Vikings signed TJ, good move for them with Sidney Rice being out for at least half the season.

There's mitigating factors with the Seahawks. Chiefly, that they realised they signed a thirty year old to a five year deal and don't want him. If they get better than a fifth for him it will be a good deal.

Anyway, now he has been cut. Guess they couldn't get a seventh.

Once again, people will take Coles (168 rec, 2010 yards, 18 TDs the last three years) but don't want Housh (283 rec, 2958 yards, 19TDs in three years).

I don't see a reason to take Housh on (unless signing him would get Clowney the hell off the team), but this is another what-does-it-take-to-get-people-off-Cole's-crotch? moments for me.

While I'm by no means encouraging a Coles sign/not sign... TJ Housh can still be called a #1/#2 target (which already have BE, Holmes, Cotch who can say the same thing). Coles would know his role as a #4, etc. Housh would not be able to accept that.

I see no reason to dip into Housh at this point and it sounds like he will be on his way to Minnesota.

Coles knows Schotty's system, that's why I'd rather have him here.

That's pretty funny actually. Weren't the Vikes trying to sign him when he went FA, but lost out to Seattle?

Eh, when Rice comes back Housh will be behind him, and if Harvin is in the game he'll get first crack at a lot of the shorter routes Housh is good for. Which means half way through the season Housh is going to fight Berrian for third on the depth chart, and he won't get in on deep routes because Berrian is notable quicker.

If he is anticipating being a regular contributor for long he ought to be disappointed because he will be a third/fourth most of the season.
