Jim Leonhard left no secret that he wasn’t happy with the boobirds directed at Mark Sanchez before the Jets’ 28-24 win to the Bills on Sunday. The veteran safety, one of the most well-respected and fan-friendly players on Rex Ryan’s team, admitted on Tuesday that he took exception to the fans’ expression of frustration at the quarterback during pre-game introductions.

“I think we have a great crowd,” Leonhard told WFAN radio. “I think probably for one of the best times, I was kind of disappointed. Our starting quarterback gets booed in introductions…. That’s frustrating when … As players, you kind of turn to each other and say, ‘You know what? I guess we’re in this one today by ourselves. We can’t rely on the crowd to give us that energy because it’s already started off on a bad note.’ So I will say that this past weekend was really the first time that I’ve been kind of frustrated going into a game, which is bad.”

“But we do have a great crowd,” Leonhard added. “We have passionate fans, as passionate as anybody and they understand the game of football. So I give them the benefit of the doubt on a lot of things, but …. We love it when the crowd is going crazy… There’s a lot of situations where we control. (If) we start a little hotter, you know that crowd is going to get riled up.”

The crowd at MetLife Stadium expressed their displeasure with Sanchez’s play several times during the game as well. He was booed after his first-half interception on a poorly thrown pass intended for Santonio Holmes. He was later booed after a miscommunication with Holmes that resulted in an incompletion.

“We obviously understand the fans,” Leonhard said. “We’re all frustrated. It’s not just you guys. The players are frustrated as well. The coaches are frustrated. The only way we can right some of these wrongs is by going pout and winning games. We just want that crowd to have our back, which we know they do. But (if) they’re not going to give us the benefit of the doubt sometimes, we got to go out there and prove it week in and week out at home as well.”

Booing during announcements? That's is just f*ckin awful. Jet fans need to get a reality check. This is why we rarely have homefield advantage. Fans are either booing or sitting on their hands.

Unfortunately, me an my fellow hecklers sit behind the Jets bench now and not the opposing players bench. We get drunk, angry, and start to yell. Its more fun to be mean to the other team, but when Mark plays like that....we can't really help it. Yes i'm serious, we sit close enough, row 5-7 section 113, that our whole team can hear us yell at them. We talk to Brunell all the time and kept telling him to warm up and get ready. we also made vlad ducasse look at us and pretended to be horrified by his face.

Its not our fault that Mark sucks. When he makes a good throw we cheer...when he makes a poor decision or bad throw we let him know that its not just schotty he's going to be yelled at by. Its his third season, he doesn't have that margin of error a rookie qb has with the fan base. When he sucks, we tell him he sucks. If the Jets don't want to be booed, then maybe they should fix the things that we boo about!

Reminds me of a few years back when Pennington got injured (2007 I think) and while he was laying on the ground some Jets fans were booing him.

Sanchez hadn't even thrown a ball yet when he was being introduced. Wait to do that shit until the game actually starts and he's on the field f***ing up if you feel the need to do it.

Mark is watching the wrong game film he should look at drew breeze's game and see if he can get that kind of play .

If yesterdays game was home, i think we all would be booing our asses off. Down 16-13 in the fourth quarter to the REDSKINS, are you f***ing kidding me!?!?

If it wasn't for Maybin (NFL comeback player of the year winner IMO) and his huge game breaking strip-sack, we might have lost to the horrendous skins. Mark missed a couple of wide open receivers, and when he would get them the ball, we had quite a few drops too. Keller i remember had two.

I was in the corner by the visitors sideline i had good boo access.
Also when i had breath to spare i would curse out sanchez in spanish.

hahaha good for you man. at the end of the game were you hanging around with fireman ed? it seemed like all the jet fans pooled together after most of the skin fans left. At one point the J-E-T-S chant was loud enough to hear clearly on TV
