Jetsfan115 Icon : (Today, 04:41 PM) cruz doens't want to leave NY cause teh extra money he'll get in endorsements plus he knows taht they can RFA him this year and then Franchise next year so he might not be able to get a LTD for 3 years

Looks like the lockout is coming to an end and the season will start Christmas Day. I know I'm glad it's back especially considering the college football season is wrapping up and the Jets....well sadly we all know what's going on there. So I'm glad to see the NBA back. There are already trade rumors regarding the Nets trying to get Dwight Howard and the Celtics talking trading Rondo for Chris Paul. We all saw the free agency frenzy following the NFL lockout, the NBA will have a shorter time so it's going to get interesting really fast leading up to the start of the season. The one thing that disappoints me is that it doesn't look like they are going to raise the age limit to 20 like I was hoping. That's the one thing I hoped to get out of this lockout.

Oh well it's good to have basketball back.

The Clippers. I'm just happy Chris Paul doesn't want to go to Bawston. The Knicks need to figure out a way to grab him. Paul in D'Antoni's offense would be awesome. Then again the Lakers need a point guard now that Phil and his triangle are gone.

I am happy for those who like the sport but it really does not matter to me. The only thing I do care about is now ESPN will be on overkill on coverage once it starts. Thats when I have to go to NFLN.

It's good to see basketball fans have perspective and actually support having three good team while the rest are farm systems to actually teach one-and-done college players how to play. Considering how many people are for the Paul trade getting pushed through anyway.

Well that's what happens in a sport that actually has valuable advertising time. There would be TV timeouts in soccer too...that is if millions more of Americans wanted to watch it.

You are right the millions of people that watch the world cup are not worth the advertising time. Seriously the nba doesnt come close in ratings to soccer the nfl doesnt either.

The World Cup is once every 4 years. You can't compare a once every 4 year event to a league that plays 82 regular season games and a playoff tournament through 8 months out of every year. Also many of the millions of people you're talking about come from third world countries. It's not like kids in Zimbabwe are going to ask their parents to buy them a pair of $200 Nikes they just saw on commercial during a World Cup match. It's not like people who have to walk miles to get semi-safe drinking water are going to the supermarket to buy a Sprite after seeing a commercial for it during a soccer match. That's one of the reasons NBA time is more valuable. Basketball fans (Americans, Europeans, the Chinese) usually have more disposable income to buy the products advertised during NBA telecasts. So yeah the World Cup may be watched by more eyes, but advertising time during World Cup matches still wouldn't be as valuable as time during a NBA telecast. So yeah it may be irritating that the NBA (and college ball also) has so many TV timeouts, but that's what keeps it a billion dollar corporation.

Until millions more of Americans watch it, advertising time during soccer matches won't be as valuable as ad time during NBA and college basketball games. Basketball just happens to be more popular in the nations with more money, chief among them the United States. If soccer were more popular here in the U.S. the MLS would have a TV contract worth billions too.
