Well in regards to the joke I think this past week he's proven he's a better R&B singer than he is a comedian. In regards to the speech it will likely do what he needed it to do, rally his base and get the base motivated for the upcoming campaign this year. There was plenty of "red meat" in it for me. I liked what he said about education, the trade deficit with China, and money's influence over members congress among some other things. But of course there was John Boehner sitting behind the President stoned faced and Eric Cantor and Mitch McConnell snarling from their seats. So it's clear nothing in his speech will come to fruition this year. Boehner can't control the tea partiers who were elected in 2010 and it doesn't benefit them to work with President Obama. So basically it was just a speech to make the base of the Democratic party happy. Which it seems like it did from some of the responses I read from my Democratic friends on my Facebook feed.
A lot of it was a wet dream for me, but like every wet dream you wake up the next morning only to realize it was all a dream. So I'll wait until 2013 before I start to get my hopes up about anything in the speech actually becoming a reality. When it comes right down to it if you liked him yesterday then you liked the speech, if you didn't like him yesterday you didn't like the speech.

It seemed to me a re-election speech more than an actual plan. If he does everything he said I would be pretty happy. The allowing more land for oil and gas with regs, The rewarding teachers and putting taxes where they should be. I really liked how he called out both parties about the bickering and BS. On a personal level I did not like how he bashed banks. I think he could have been a little more specific. Overall he did a good job getting people on the fence to swing to his side.
