Per ESPN

Quote

Former Alabama running back Trent Richardson will not take part in on-field drills at the scouting combine later this week after undergoing minor knee surgery.

Richardson's representatives sent a memo to all 32 teams informing them of the procedure, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.

A person familiar with the procedure told Schefter the surgery was "no big deal at all."

According to the memo, Richardson is expected to be able to participate in on-field activity by the end of March. Alabama's pro day is slated for March 7.

The NFL Network reported earlier Wednesday that Richardson was injured in a practice leading up to the Allstate BCS National Championship Game and had the surgery roughly three weeks ago to ease discomfort.

The 5-foot-11, 224-pound running back has made good progress since the procedure, the report said, but will skip the drills as a precaution.

Richardson set school single-season rushing records with 1,679 yards and 21 touchdowns in his lone season as a full-time starter in 2011 after running behind 2009 Heisman winner Mark Ingram.

Richardson was a Heisman Trophy finalist and the Doak Walker Award winner as the nation's top running back. He is the No. 1-ranked running back prospect in April's draft by both ESPN's Scouts Inc. and ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr., and is a projected top-10 pick.

I would personally love if Richardson fell to us. If Sparano wants to go ground-&-pound then we need a stable of running backs, and Richardson is a game-changing talent. I know we have other positions that we need to address, but some of those can be shored up by: resigning Braylon/grabbing a later round WR (think Fuller or Quick a little earlier), grabbing a RT in the 2nd, and making room for Michael Griffin. Then we're only lacking a pass rusher, but there are no elite rushers in this class, or free agency anyway aside from Super Mario, and we all know that's a pipe dream.

I would love it, but not a chance he slides that far.
Fifteen years ago after an especially disappointing loss to Miami, Esiason, then the Jets' quarterback, was making the seven-mile drive from the Meadowlands back to Manhattan.
While he was slogging through stop-and-go traffic at the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel, the car next to him was violently rear-ended. The quarterback threw his car into park, hopped out and ran to the woman whose car had been hit. She was wearing, of all things, an Esiason jersey, and was utterly shocked when he tapped on her window to check on her.
"Are you OK?" he said, trying to keep calm. "Are you OK?"
"Boomer? Is that you?" she asked the Good Samaritan, sounding disoriented. "I think I'm OK, but . ... "
But what?
"But you guys sucked."
Welcome to the New York Jets, Tim Tebow.

Not many teams that need a RB that high, some team could trade up but I think there is a slight chance he drops to us.

If he gets past Tampa Bay and Cinci doesn't trade up, I think he falls. Especially with no combine to blow teams away.

He could definitely slip.

I wouldn't say no.

Hey, ToolCake2009... he's from the SEC and not a Gator.

Nah its ok, I agree with you on this. You really should stop lashing out at others just because you are lacking.

A big HELL NO to drafting Richardson.

I still say no. RB ins't a need. we have a solid greene and potential with mcknight and powell. We need to address RT, OLB, Saftey, and WR before we even think about a RB

The Browns had a need for Joe Thomas so they passed on Peterson. Joe Thomas is great, but Peterson could go down as one of the game's all time great running backs. I'm not comparing Richardson to Peterson, but he is probably the most complete talent to come along since Peterson. Richardson is likely a little stronger and a little slower, but he'd be a phenomenal talent for a team dedicated to ground and pound. 1st round pass rushers suck this year, safety is weak too. If we don't get Richardson, it better be an offensive lineman or Michael Floyd.

Scratch that, it better be an OL, WR is too deep to grab one 1st round

The Giants won this year without a superstar RB. Last year Green Bay did the same. New Orleans and New England have won their Super Bowls without one either. Same with Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. Do you know what they all had in common? THEY HAD SUPERSTAR QB'S AND VERY SOLID TO GREAT DEFENSES AND OFFENSIVE LINES. So why are we talking about Richardson when the blueprint couldn't be any plainer. We need a top QB but we all know we aren't going to get one. So let's concentrate on building a super defense and an offensive line. With time, most receivers can get open and we have a really good one if he can keep his mouth shut. I say draft a RT, DE/LB who can rush the passer (Upshaw, Ingram, Coples, Mercellis, Curry, Pace), another safety besides Goldson and a WR. And I would do it usiing the philosophy of best available in each round.

Personally, I'd trade all my draft choices plus Sanchez to get Luck.

Thank God you're not our GM.

We don't need Luck or a RB. We have far too many other areas of concern to worry about. We still need a pass rush, desperate help on the O-line at RT & more speed at LB.
I will not be forgotten. This is my time to shine. I've got the scars to prove it. Only the strong survive.

FlyHiJets - I know my statement sounds nuts. But remember it and think about it a couple of years from now. I believe Luck will turn out to be one of the superstar QB's and when you get one you have a championship caliber team for 10 years.

Each year we average 3 or 4 players that stick with the team through the draft. One or two of them winds up being really good.

Would you trade all of your picks this year for Aaron Rogers? No guarantees with Luck but that's the caliber of talent scouts believe he has.

What's the difference between the Jets and all those teams you just named? THEY ARE ALL DEDICATED, PASS FIRST TEAMS. We've already come out and said that we're running the ball more. This is not a pass first offense, and likely never will be with Sanchez at the helm. It'll be a ball-control, defensive oriented team that will allow Sanchez to manage games, not win them on his own. Every single team you just named that has recently won a Super Bowl has a future hall-of-fame quarterback (Eli is probably the only questionable one). DO we have that? Nope, so let's play to our strengths instead of copying the "blueprint". Just because that's how those teams won, doesn't mean its the ONLY way to win.

We have 3 pro-bowl linemen, but we can all agree that RT is a need. We can shore that up in round 2. I'd get sick if we drafted a first round pass rusher this year, they all look to be marginal prospects with severe limitations. We can beef up the defense with the addition of Griffin and a few draft picks. LBers will survive another year, especially if Maybin starts to tap his potential. In other words, i agree with building up the D and OL, but it doesn't have to be at the expense of drafting Richardson if the opportunity presents itself.

We need more talented players on offense, Richardson could be a featured back that takes pressure off of Sanchez.

If he falls to us and we pass on him I'll be ecstatic. To take a running back in the first round over a pass rusher, RT, or safety would be incredibly stupid.
