We've read a lot about Coples already, one thing is for sure...he is a polarizing pick for Jets fans. I'll just say this, the Gholston comparisons are misguided. Gholston was never a football player, he was a fitness model. Coples can play, the question with his work ethic is if he can play all the time. Keep in mind two things:

1 - He posted 55 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks his senior year. For most prospects that is a great year that vaults you into the first round. But since Coples notched 59 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks in his junior year playing DT for a depleted line...most assumed Coples would post ridiculously higher numbers his senior year playing DE. Success is equal to expectation...

Was his disappointing senior year a product of UNC scandal and coaching changes, or is he a better interior pass rusher? Which is a role Rex envisions for his new 3-4 DE...

2 - In a UNC scandal that seemed to affect every big time prospect at UNC, Coples apparently avoided temptation and didn't get wrapped up in any of the scandal.

DAY TWO

So basically, the Jets four big holes of OLB, OL, WR, and S have gone untouched on the first day of the draft. Though, as Rex said, Coples will hopefully help create production for someone else.

OLB

There are still plenty of second round values at the OLB position, namely Courtney Upshaw, Andre Branch, and Vinny Curry. But, there are also some guys available in the 3rd - 4th range like Cam Johnson, Olivier Vernon, and Ronnell Lewis. Overall, I don't think the Jets have to get an OLB in the second round. It would be nice in the third, but still not a necessity as they have starters...the same of which cannot be said for Safety and Right Tackle.

Safety

The two top rated safeties, Mark Barron and Harrison Smith, are gone...and the drop off is steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. I can't imagine the Jets would look to fill this hole in the second, or possibly even third round. But, after that, there are several prospects who have that steal potential. Starting with George Iloka and Brandon Taylor, and later looking at Markelle Martin, Duke Ihenacho, Trumaine Johnson, and Tony Dye.

Offensive Line

Cordy Glenn is the biggest name left, and he figures to go early in the second round. After him the pickings get slim. Mike Adams, Bobby Massie, and Jonathon Martin all have more questions than I'd feel comfortable drafting this early. But, in the third round there could be some interesting players like Cal's Mitchell Schwartz, who won't ever be elite, but can be an above average tackle for years.

Wide Receiver

Arguably the deepest position in this draft, there are good prospects in every round, so let's just rattle off the list...Rueben Randle, Ryan Broyles, Alshon Jeffrey, Mohamed Sanu, Brian Quick, Tommy Streeter, Nick Toon, Marvin McNutt, Marvin Jones, TY Hilton, Travis Benjamin, Devon Wylie, Dwight Jones, and maybe some late round pick like Stephen Hill.

Honestly, I hope the Jets take two WR's in this draft.

Always good stuff my man.

Cam Johnson in the 3rd would be a very nice pick, good shout. I like Jonathan Martin and Mike Adams enough to definitely take them here in the second round, and I also would wait on a WR. 3rd or 4th round, then 6th round... and we could walk away with two players who can/will make the roster easily.
