The Jets' scrutinized quarterback duo, Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow, had a so-so day in today's OTA session, the second open to the media.
Today's focus was the red zone and two-minute drill. Sanchez finished the day completing 7 of 14 passes during 11-on-11 team drills, in his 20 snaps. He was 3-for-7 in a two-minute drive that started out promising but came up empty. Sanchez completed his first three passes of the hurry-up drive, then spiked the ball, but the drive stalled after a penalty. Sanchez's final three passes were incomplete, ending with a low pass to running back Joe McKnight in the end zone, which McKnight couldn't hang on to as he tumbled to the turf.
Tebow was 1-of-4 in eight snaps of 11-on-11 team drills. He did not do two-minute work. Greg McElroy ran the second-team offense during the two-minute period. His lone completion was a highlight -- a deep pass down the sideline for about 50 yards to rookie Stephen Hill.
Both Sanchez and Tebow threw a touchdown -- Sanchez to tight end Dustin Keller, and Tebow to Hill -- in 7-on-7 red-zone work.

Tebow did not take part in any of the special-team drills on the field this week. Last week, he was used as the personal protector on the punt team, but the Jets practiced their punt returns this week. Kyle Wilson and Dexter Jackson were the returners.
First-round pick Quinton Coples had a strong day. He had a pressure on Sanchez through the right side of the offensive line, and batted down one of Sanchez's passes in 11-on-11 drills. Safety Yeremiah Bell also recorded a "sack" of Sanchez.
WR Santonio Holmes is still excused as he is in Germany to visit American troops. CB Antonio Cromartie, who missed last week's OTA open to the media to be with his family, was back today. S LaRon Landry is still absent.
WR Jeremy Kerley sat out today as a precaution, after feeling tightness in his hamstring. Seventh-round pick Jordan White, who is still unsigned, was out this week and last because of a foot injury. LB David Harris (calf) returned to the field for team drills today. LG Matt Slauson (shoulder surgery) continues to sit out of team drills. Vlad Ducasse and Caleb Schlauderaff alternated series in his place.
Third-round pick Demario Davis, whom coach Rex Ryan has said he sees some attributes of Ray Lewis in, worked with the first-team sub defense during the two-minute drill.

- Neither Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow had the best day throwing the ball. Sanchez repeatedly checked down and did not throw many deep balls. That may have been an objective in Thursday's practice. It's hard to know without being privy to the coaches' plan for the day. Tebow looked more decisive than last week but still had some poor decisions. Unofficially, I had Sanchez completing 7 of 14 passes during 11-on-11 drills. I had Tebow going 1-for-4.
- The star of the practice was first-round pick Quinton Coples. The defensive end was in the backfield repeatedly. He had a few nice pressures and batted down a Sanchez pass. It's hard to judge linemen without pads on, but Coples looks quick and he played both inside and outside on the line.
- The most entertaining portion of practice was the two-minute drill at the end. With 1:10 on the clock, Sanchez and the first-team offense got the ball at their own 45. They marched down the field to the 8, then a delay of game penalty moved them back to the 13. Sanchez had three straight incompletions as the defense won the battle. Joe McKnight nearly pulled in the final pass of the drill but couldn't make a tough catch off a wheel route. Interestingly, Greg McElroy handled the second-team offense in the two-minute drill, not Tebow.
- The catch of the day went to rookie Stephen Hill. Tebow threw a long pass down the sideline to Hill, who made a beautiful, twisting adjustment on the ball to come up with the long catch. Hill burned cornerback Kyle Wilson on the play.

Good to hear Coples looking impressive, still isn't in full pads though.

True but its not like he's never played in pads before. He has the potential to be a game changer at WR. I like our WR group this year alot better then last year.

holmes (same as last)
hill > 34YO plax
Kerly with a year exp
schillens > turner

I know turner might still be here but won't see the field much

talentwise he is, he needs to be more mature this season and be a leader and step up instead of pouting about his stats and giving up

If we hit big with this guy, our offense could be very good. I can't help the fact that the RT played so poorly last year (really everyone except Nick disappointed on some level) and we ignored the position ever since. The quality of the line play is as important as the quality of play of WR's, TE's, and RB's.

Wasn't Brick top 5 in sacks allowed last year?

I don't give a shit about that...we know he's tall and fast...we know he can catch deep passes. That's all he did in college. I want to see him run hitch routes, in's, going over the middle...finding soft spots in zones. That's what will make him great.
