The Jets recently have some plays for cornerback Antonio Cromartie as a receiver. Cromartie considers himself the second-best receiver on the team, after Santonio Holmes, Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
“I think I’d put myself as second,” Cromartie told ESPN First Take today. “I haven’t really played it in the past four or five years. I can put myself as the second with just raw ability and talent going out there, and I think, me separating and being a more physical guy out there on the outside.”
Cromartie was used as a receiver on one play in Monday's practice although not targeted. He said a few days ago the plan is to give him "a couple plays here and there."
Behind Santonio Holmes, the Jets receiving corps includes players like Chaz Schilens, Jeremy Kerley and second-round pick Stephen Hill. Cromartie hasn't practiced at receiver since he was in college at Florida State, but he is confident in his skill set.
“Kerley is a more of a slot receiver, he’s a slot guy,” Cromartie said. “Stephen Hill, he’s a younger guy that can get down the field. I think, for me, I still can run every single route in the route tree. I’m not going to take away from my ability, so when you ask me that question, yes, I’m going to sit here and say I’m one of the best receivers on the football team, next to Santonio Holmes.”
