Jetsfan115 Icon : (16 April 2014 - 03:33 PM) so i bet powell barely gets any touches this year and goodson gets cut
azjetfan Icon : (16 April 2014 - 03:34 PM) Goodson is as good as gone.

Anyone else kinda feeling like we should pay Revis?

Soon?
Fifteen years ago after an especially disappointing loss to Miami, Esiason, then the Jets' quarterback, was making the seven-mile drive from the Meadowlands back to Manhattan.
While he was slogging through stop-and-go traffic at the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel, the car next to him was violently rear-ended. The quarterback threw his car into park, hopped out and ran to the woman whose car had been hit. She was wearing, of all things, an Esiason jersey, and was utterly shocked when he tapped on her window to check on her.
"Are you OK?" he said, trying to keep calm. "Are you OK?"
"Boomer? Is that you?" she asked the Good Samaritan, sounding disoriented. "I think I'm OK, but . ... "
But what?
"But you guys sucked."

HAHAHAHA

Me and my buddy text throughout the games and I told him in the 2nd Q "Revis is making his money this game. Tanny sees that our Top 5 defense is barely Top 20 without him".

BTW, a fried of mine was at Bounce (a pretty popular sports bar in NYC) during the game and Revis was there. He smoked up in the basement and then was hollarin at bitches. Like a BAWSE.

I just wonder if Jets fans will feel the same way we feel right now next summer if there is a holdout. I can hear the "make the greedy bastard retire" comments already.

I've never heard of a guy earning money when he's injured but yes please. After watching him play for the past few years, damn the pass D was atrocious yesterday.

I missed the second half of the game yesterday and it looked like it was a good thing I did. (Had to take the wife out to dinner for our anniversary.)
Considering next year is the last year of his contract as long as he doesn't hold out, then yes, we pay the man. He'd be a complete IDIOT to hold out in the offseason. If he holds out, he's on the line for another 3 years. If he doesn't he's a free agent. There's no way he holds out.
I will not be forgotten. This is my time to shine. I've got the scars to prove it. Only the strong survive.

I disagree with this 110% I dont know what game you were watching. The defense played really good. The defense pretty much shut down the run and the only reason the Steelers passing succeeded at all is because the jets pass rushers weren't able to bring Rapelesburger down. Its not like the the defense wasn't getting to him. He has always been hard to bring down and because of that he was able to extend the plays. Pretty much any decent qb can find an open receiver if the defense fails to bring the qb down no matter how good the secondary is.
The defense was getting to Ben and coverage was pretty good for the most part. If they weren't getting to Ben at all with no pass rush (like last years defensive line)then Id agree with you 110%.

Revis or not I still say we have a top ten defense.Revis isnt the whole defense and its not like Wilson was picked on all night so I dont understand the logic. Ben was throwing the ball everywhere.

Whether Revis was playing or not it wouldn't have made much of a difference if any. The core of any good defense is first the defensive line an second the ability of lb penetration the secondary is the last piece. You can have an average or shitty secondary but if the qb is under constant pressure, hits, and sack.

Roethlesbburger does take a lot of sacks but he is also maybe the best in the league at extending plays by slipping sack attemps.

Matt Ryan did the same thing tonight. He was under a lot of pressure all night but what makes him steller but is he is smart enough to know when to roll out and extend plays.

Ben vs our defense when Revis played in 2010

264 yards 52% 1 TD 0 INT 78 QB rating

133 yards 52% 0 TD 2 INT 35 QB rating

Without Revis this year

275 yards 77% 2 TD 0 INT 125 QB rating

Revis changes our coverage with his ability to take out a teams #1 WR by himself. If Revis was covering Wallace, that TD wouldn't have happened.

Totally Stupid comparison.
This isn't 2010 when the Jets were 11-5 with a top 3 running game and top 2 defense together.

You might as well just come up with stats from any year the defense was good if you are going to try to compare stats for 2012 to a totally different team. There were a lot of different players on the defense in 2010. Like only 4 to 5 starters at most from 2010 to now.

Jets were 17th in defense in 2011.No damn way Revis being in there is going magically a totally different defense become the top 2 defense in the NFL.You are taking to much stock in the Buffalo game.

And once again in 2011 Jets were 0-4 against teams with winning records
2 wins 3 losses against .500 teams
and 6 and 2 against sub .500 teams
All this equals a bad team in 2011 since the jets were only good against sub .500 teams.

Jets haven't proven shit yet except that they are better than most of the below .500 teams. Until they look at least halfway decent against a team with a winning record this year they aren't proving shit yet. Beating up on two shitty teams like Miami and Buffalo only proves the Jets aren't as bad as they are.Buffalo and Miami will probably be 6 win teams again this year. Once the Jets face the 49rs,Texans and Patriots we will see where the Jets really are.

I'm holding my judgement on this years team until I see the Jets play known good teams. Yeah there were drops against the Steelers but a measly 129 yards passing doesn't instill very much confidence in me.

Looking a lot like last year so far....

Against the four winning teams the jets faced in 2011 Jets scored
17,21,16,14

Against five .500 teams Jets scored
27,24,27,13,19

Basically To get past the 20 point mark the Jets need to face a .500 team and against a shitty team they put up 30+ last year......Same pattern so far in 2012

That's all well and good... except for the small fact that the Jets defense is built around the concept of Revis shutting down half of the field. Safeties could have rolled coverage to other players, an extra defender could be brought on the blitz, etc.

Saying he wouldn't have made much of a difference seems pretty far out there.

Yeah our defense isn't better without Revis... His ability to shutdown a teams top WR by himself, doesn't allow them to shift coverage to help others which in returns helps the entire defense. We don't have a great pass rusher, so we need to have excellent coverage from our DBs. Our defense couldn't get off the field vs the Steelers, they gave up way too many 3rd down conversions, despite shutting down the run, Steelers only had a 2.4 YPC average. Wallace and Brown had good games.

I don't know why you are bringing up the Bills game, no one else did. And if you don't want to base anything on previous seasons, why are you calling the Bills a trash team? They are 1-1 in 2012, we don't know who the top teams are yet if you want to base everything on this season. And what a waste of time it is to only care what we do vs teams over .500, first off we won't know who is above .500 after the season, some of our wins last season were when teams were above .500 but then fell to .500 or under after the season. I will enjoy each and every win, the Patriots had one win vs a team over .500 last season and that came in the playoffs, they also made it to the SB.

The Jets haven't proven shit yet? No kidding, its only been 2 weeks into the season. Idk what most of this has to do with Revis, which is what the topic is about. You make a comment about it not being 2010 anymore, but brought a lot about 2011 up. Fact is our pass defense is clearly better when Revis is on the field.

Point taken.
First thing.... I never said the defense isn't better with Revis. That is a given. Revis is arguably the best defender in the NFL and if not he is definitely the best corner in the NFL by a mile. All Jets fans agree with this.

Next to clarify.. the only reason I brought up 2011 as a comparison is because most of the starters from 2011 are still starting in 2012 except for the safeties. Couples isn't an every down player yet so I'm not including him. After 2010 to 2011 a lot of starters were different.

Also I'm not saying the defense is bad either. I really think we have a top ten defense. I truly believe that the Jets shut down the defense in the Bills game and totally believe that is the only reason the Bills scored 28 and Spiller torched us. Also as I said in the other post I think the Jets defense played well against the Steelers and again I say the only reason Ben torched us was because we couldn't bring him down. If the majority of those hands laid on Ben resulted in sacks the game would have been a lot closer.

It wasn't the secondary or the linebackers getting torched which is why I dont think the game would have made a lot of difference with Revis in the game. There was a lot of one on one coverage and Wilson did pretty well. Ben was throwing the ball all over the field and Revis cant cover everyone. Not to mention a lot of the Steeler receptions were stellar catches.

Basically we may not have a stellar pass rush this year but we finally do have one and its been the first time in years (since Ellis started to degrade and Jenkins went down). The last two years we couldn't get to the opposing qb to save our asses and we had to pray the corners were shut down. I believed in the potential of the young defensive line from last year and figured they would be a lot better this year and now it is showing. The d-line just needs to make sure that the hands they lay on the qb result in sacks.

Ben is an anomaly with his body strength. He is the hardest qb in the league to bring down. If the d-line can pressure most qbs like that have the past two weeks then this defense will be nasty all year.

On the other side of the argument....The first two weeks the Jets give up 28 and 27 points. This has to stop. If our offense cant put up those kind of points consistently that is going to be a major problem.

Also I'm not blaming Sanchez for this game. I thought he did ok. Id like to review the game again to see if he was throwing the ball late but at first glance during the game I thought he played pretty well. Honestly as shitty as the offense was and with Mark only passing for 129 yards and one td I say he looked better in that bad loss than any game game win or loss last year. He looked pretty decisive to me and for me.

I'm one of the biggest (if not the biggest) critics of mark on the site because of the major flaws Ive seen in his game over the years but I really saw major improvement against the Steelers that I haven't seen from him before.

Basically I just say the offense just self destructed as a whole. No sense in pointing fingers at anyone on offense.

Even so with all that said our offense needs to look good against playoff teams from last year. Jets play five games this year against playoff teams from 2011.Im just throwing the Steelers game out as a whole team f*ck up. I'm totally looking past the Miami game totally no matter what happens. I do think the Jets have potential this year because of the defense being better but I'm reserving judgment until I see the jets play the other 3 playoff teams.

Theoretically the Jets could go 11-5 if they lost all five games to the four playoff teams from 2011 and won against all the other teams that fell short but I for one wouldn't feel very confident if the Jets went 11-5 and only won against teams with losing records.

I want to see more from this team to silence to questions to prove to everyone that we have a good team.

He was under a lot of pressure all night but what makes him steller but is he is smart enough to know when to roll out and extend plays.

agree and also Rex has abandon the blitz which he must learn that he must still be Rex even with the horses we now have although young
horses.
