FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Mark Sanchez insisted Wednesday he didn't feel slighted that he was replaced by Tim Tebow at quarterback for the first play of the Jets' final drive in regulation Sunday against the Patriots.
It seemed like an odd time to use the Wildcat -- Tebow in shotgun, Sanchez split out as a receiver -- and the Jets' coaches have been getting hammered for not trusting Sanchez with the game on the line, and the ball at the Patriots' 18. The Jets played it conservatively -- run, run, sack -- and ended up settling for a field goal.
They lost in OT, 29-26.
"I mean, I threw it 41 times, so I think they have plenty of trust in me," Sanchez said. "I don't look at stuff like that. They're trying to put us in a position to win and (we're) calling the best plays we possibly can. We're all in this thing together. He's not (thinking), 'We can't do this because of Mark.' I don't think that's his thought process at all."
Sanchez said he's getting "more and more used to it each week," meaning the Tebow package and learning when Tebow might come into a game. He said he goes into every game thinking they could call any play on the game-plan play sheet.
