What do we do? Do we think we can make a run for the playoffs or do we trade the dead weight to clear cap space for next year? I dont have a real good handle on how the cap works but I believe if we trade a guy with guaranteed money the new team is on the hook for the $ and we are penalized a % of their contract. Personally I think we will not make the playoffs. Here is who I would trade if we could get rid of the salary. Also who I would trade because they are on the last year of their contract
Sanchez
Scott
Greene
Keller
Pace
Holmes
I would keep
Revis
Mangold
Brick
I am sure there are players I am missing. Time for a Mini rebuild. Even if we trade a guy Like Scott or Pace for another player that is younger and more affordable. Who is the best back up QB right now?
Thought please

No one is going to trade for a receiver with a season ending injury(all he brought the Steelers was a fifth anyway) or two old LBs. Nobody will give anything good for Sanchez because any team bad enough to want him is better off just waiting for the draft. Maybe we could get a really late round pick for Greene, but with McKnight being a pussy and Powell having been nicked up it would be giving up on the season. So Keller has some value, but if I'm correct his contract is up after this season, so why bother trading for him?
This is the team we will probably have this year, unless the team trades for someone to keep their name in the headlines.

I agree but this is about clearing cap space. Dropping dead weight. I believe Sanchez is owed $10 Million next year and Pace and Scott are over paid as well.

Agreed. There isn't much value for any of our players right now, other than perhaps David Harris and Antonio Cromartie, and both of them won't be moved. Even Tebow would garner less than we sent to Denver to acquire him. Maybe Kerley could fetch a mid-round pick, but again that isn't happening.
If we're going to say that we aren't in contention for the playoffs now, the best way to get value out of players is to plug in young players (eg Davis, Coples, Ducasse, McIntyre, maybe call up Jordan White from the practice squad) and give them extended playing time as opposed to playing the likes of Slauson, Scott and Schilens. Heck maybe even see what McElroy can do in the final few weeks of the year...

But it still requires a trade partner. I'd love to dump Scott, but someone has to want him and be willing to take on salary, rather than hoping we cut him and signing him to a smaller contract. Holmes isn't worth what we gave him healthy, which he isn't.
