As a follow up to something I did a year or so ago I wanted to look at Ryan's record with the Jets against winning teams. Here are the numbers:

Against teams that finished the season above .500 (or are currently above .500 this season):

6-15 (28%)

Against teams that finished the season at .500 or below (or are currently the same):

24-9 (72%)

First, I'll admit this does not include the playoffs where he has a winning record. It does include the two games against the Bengals and Colts his first season where both teams benched their starters during the game. Without those two wins the Jets under Rex Ryan would be 4-15 against winning teams.

On top of that, over the course of last season and this season, Ryan has led the Jets to a 1-8 record against teams above .500, with the sole victory being over the Colts this year.

Nuff said.

you need talent to beat good teams, you can't beat teams consistently who you are outmatched talent wise with.

Poor Ryan, if only the bad New York Jets would let him be the all time great coach he could be.

If fans are going to point to Sanchez' record against winning teams, the same argument also has to be made about Rex. If you also look at the margin of defeat against teams with a winning record, then things have certainly got worse and not better. Although our heaviest defeat was against New England in 2010, last year we had losses by more than two scores against Baltimore, New England, the Giants (and Philadelphia who finished 8-8), while this season we've lost by 17 to Pittsburgh, 34 to San Francisco and 21 against Miami. What that shows is that our defence hasn't been able to carry the offense as many argued it would. And that is attributable to Rex. We've certainly missed Revis, but his loss can't be blamed for our poorer play against the run and disappointing pass rush.
Saying that, the blame has to go around from the offense to the defence to the coaching staff and to the general manager.

You also need a QB that is the exact opposite of mark sanchez to beat good teams. When your QB is turning the ball over in scoring position multiple times a game, you aren't going to win very often. Maybe I am insane but I blame mark sanchez for the teams downfall. I've never seen 1 player completely kill a team the way he has. Its truly amazing.
