It seems like the Chiefs are always two steps behind us. They learn things 2 or 3 years after we already knew those things. We knew Herm Edwards was a mediocre head coach and then the Chiefs take him off our hands and a few years later learn what we already knew about him. We knew after Mangini that the "Patriot way" doesn't work for other franchises. They hired Scott Pioli to do it the "Patriot way" and they still stink.

I remember in the summer of 2011 I met a Chiefs fan at a store and they had just lost a game badly in the preseason. He was very pessimistic about the upcoming season and was just very down about his team's chances. I tried to raise his spirits and reminded him it was just preseason and basically tried to give him some hope for the season (even though I could've really cared less about the Chiefs). But he was still pessimistic and just frustrated over the Chiefs. As he left the store I thought to myself "Damn, I usually don't feel that way until November." Like I said a few weeks ago, I wouldn't want to be a Chiefs fan. We have the Patriots in our division so we kind of have a excuse for why we can't overcome. The Chiefs don't have a dominate team like that in their division.

Kansas City have actually got some decent talent - Berry, Charles, Bowe, Hali, Flowers, Derrick Johnson, but they've also wasted a ton of early picks over the past few years, missing in particular on defensive linemen. They drafted Ryan Sims in a similar position to where we took Dewayne Robertson a year later and he did nothing. Then more recently Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson have floundered, while Dontari Poe hasn't been heard from as of yet (although he deserves to be given time). They've wasted 2nd and 3rd round picks - some predating Pioli's arrival - on players like Turk McBride too. It hasn't helped that they've mishandled players like Bowe. Although something of a problem player, it probably hasn't helped that there's been consistent talks of the front office shipping him out.

They had such a good team less than a decade ago, particularly on offense with Trent Green slinging it and the likes of Tony Gonzalez, Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson (before he flamed out) and Eddie Kennison at the skill positions. Their line that included Brian Waters, Willie Roaf and Will Shields was beastly too. Now they're mired in mediocrity in the worst division in the AFC with seemingly no way out.
