Gates diagnosed with concussion
The Jets are hurting at wide receiver.
Clyde Gates suffered a concussion in Thursday night’s loss to the Patriots, Rex Ryan announced Friday. He was drilled by CB Kyle Arrington on a second-quarter reception, appearing as if he momentarily lost consciousness.
Chaz Schilens also sustained a head injury, although the Jets haven’t classified it as a concussion.
The Jets have nine days before their next game, home against the Cards. Right now, they have only three healthy receivers -- Jeremy Kerley and rookies Stephen Hill and Jordan White. It should be noted that Kerley has been playing with hamstring and heel injuries, although he took a majority of the snaps Thursday night. White was activated Wednesday from the practice squad.
If they decide to add a receiver, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Jets consider former Patriot Deion Branch, who was cut last Saturday. They’ve always had an affinity for Branch and he’s likely on their short list of free-agent possibilities.
