Wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been back to the Jets facility just once since suffering a season-ending Lisfranc injury back in Week 4, and that was Friday -- the Jets team picture day, Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
He has kept in contact with head coach Rex Ryan through weekly scheduled phone calls and assorted text messages to update him on his progress. Holmes said he took the injury as an opportunity to relax, read more and spend time with his family down in Florida.
As for his return, Holmes is still unsure. A second surgery to remove the plate in his foot is scheduled for February. Doctors told Holmes that he could begin walking and jogging in April. He did not know about his availability for training camp.
"We have a while to go yet," Holmes said. "We're going into our second six-week stint in a walking boot. Got another five weeks here and then another surgery."

As infuriating and immature a player as Holmes is, our offense has severely missed his presence. If we go into training camp next year with Kerley as the only real established, healthy wideout on the team, then we're going to be in serious trouble again.
The pressure is going to seriously be on Stephen Hill to make strides in the offseason. Other than him, Holmes and Kerley do we even have a receiver set to be under contract for next season?
