azjetfan Icon : (14 April 2014 - 03:44 PM) 18. New York Jets -- Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State: Surprised? Yes, the Jets need a receiver, but it's the deepest receiver draft in years, and they can find a good one in the second round. This would mark the fifth straight year with a defensive pick in Round 1.
Chaos Icon : (14 April 2014 - 03:51 PM) is he better than Gilbert, Dennard, and Fuller?
Mr_Jet Icon : (14 April 2014 - 03:56 PM) In my biased opinion I don't think he's better than Dennard.

Chris Johnson’s visit with #Jets today went well, from what it sounded like. It’s over now. Nothing final yet, other teams still circling
santana Icon : (Yesterday, 08:25 PM) I think he's just stating the obvious but whatever it's an update
2JBallar01 Icon : (Today, 10:58 AM) CJ wants 2year, $10 million deal. Jets offered muti year deal, 3-4 mill a year
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Today, 10:59 AM) so he wants 2 year 10 mil and we offered what 4 years 12-15 mil?
2JBallar01 Icon : (Today, 11:07 AM) @emesola: Chris Johnson is seeking approximately 2 years, $10 million. Idzik is not budging over $3-4 mil/year it seems. #Jets #JetsTwitter
2JBallar01 Icon : (Today, 11:08 AM) Kristian Dyer has confirmed that Idzik offered a multi-year deal, we're looking at $3-4M per, as Esola said.
santana Icon : (Today, 11:08 AM) Sidney rice coming through
2JBallar01 Icon : (Today, 11:08 AM) I'm guessing 2 years 6 mill is what was offered
santana Icon : (Today, 11:12 AM)

The current market rate for a starting running back is roughly $3M per year. Idzik is offering slightly more than that, and Johnson is seeking a good chunk more.

This is a game that is played on another message board I go to and I'll start one here for anybody who wants to play it.

Quote

RULES

Everyone picks 10 known famous people.

Points are awarded only when a celebrity dies within the gaming period (2013 calendar year). All picks must be posted in this thread before 11:59pm EST on December 31, 2012. The game will end on midnight January 1, 2014.

Points System
  • Standard Points will be awarded based on the person's age subtracted from 100 (For example if the person dies at 81 years old, you'd get 19 points [100-81=19])
  • For extra points add a "confidence pick" number after the person's name. The confidence pick number points will be added to the standard points. Any number between 1 to 10 but you may only pick a number once.
  • After you make your 10 picks you can choose any celebrity between the ages of 18 and 60 (during the 2013 calender year) to be worth 50 extra points to be added to the standard points. For example if the person dies at age 38 it would be 62 points plus the extra 50 points, totaling 112 points.
  • If there are questions about an age I will make the final determination.

That's it. Pick 10 celebrities (see criteria below) and watch the news.

Definition of a Celebrity

A celebrity is defined as anyone who's first name and last name appears on at least 5 web sites when searched on www.google.com. Each of these 5 web sites must list an obvious association to that person's claim to fame as well. If you select a person that does not meet this criteria, they will be disqualified from the contest and you will not be able to replace them on your list of 10 celebrities (unless it is discovered prior to Jan 1, 2013). If you choose a person that is already dead we will laugh at you and you will be awarded no points.

The Award
The winner of the game will get the satisfaction of winning an insensitive and crude game on an internet message board.

Quote

P.S.
If anybody you pick dies between today 12-10-2012 and 12-31-2012 (like Mandela or George Bush Sr.) you will only get half the points you'd get after January 1st.

My picks:

Zsa Zsa Gabor (10 points)

My question is after Jay Leno retires next year, who are you going to steal your tired and contrived "jokes" from?

And since we're talking about sports franchises, how are the Mets doing this year? Will they win the World Series this year? Or next year? Or any time soon? Will they even make the playoffs? They've been dead for what 25 years now?

I'm okay with the Mets losing. That's cool bro. I don't need them to win to validate my fanhood because I'm not some dork in Detroit rooting for an LA team. The Mets can never win a championship in my lifetime, neither can the Jets. I'm fine with that. It's like rooting for my neighborhood or the block I grew up on. I have a connection with the team that will transcend ownership, players and everything else. It's what happens when you're a true fan and not a bandwagoner.

You think you're better because you choose a team solely based on geographic location? Get the f*** out of here with that bullshit. This isn't the 1940s anymore when if you wanted to see a game you bought a ticket to watch the local team. With television and internet and NBA League Pass and NFL Sunday Ticket, a person can follow any team they want, anywhere on the planet. Since we're supposed to pick teams based just on a similar geographic location, which NBA team are kids in China supposed to root for? I guess a NBA fan in Calgary has to be a Toronto Raptors fan since that's Canada's only team. That's with your logic. A team's location is just a stupid reason to be a fan of a team.

Just keep being a miserable hater who roots for a losing team who has a false sense of superiority because he's loyal to the local team. "I'm okay with the Mets losing,". No I hope they do win something significant soon. Because maybe then you'll stop being such a little dick around here to almost everybody here.

EDIT: Oh yeah Magic Johnson (the reason I became a Lakers fan) was born and raised in Michigan. Since rooting for the locals is so important. I guess I should become a Yankees fan too since Derek Jeter grew up like 45 minutes from my hometown.

Actually you becoming a Yankees fan wouldn't be that big of a shock to me. I kinda already think you are one. Still perplexed why you're a Jets fan... I guess the Jets colors remind you of Michigan Spartans.

No I could never be a Yankees fan, because that would mean I'd actually have to watch baseball and I'd rather watch grass grow than that. As I said before, I became a Lakers fan because of Magic Johnson. Some people (like me) liked Magic, some preferred Jordan, some preferred Barkley and so on. It's really not that difficult to understand. I was around 5 or 6 years old for God sakes. It's not like my young mind put a whole lot of thought into it. And even after he retired in 91 my little child mind thought I wasn't allowed to change teams. So I was still a Lakers fan after Magic when all they had was Nick Van Exel and Vlade Divac.

But I understand it. You're just one of those masochist sports fans that purposely chooses the team that has a history of losing, so you can bitch about the fans of the teams with a history of winning. Because that makes you a "real fan." You're a "real fan" because you feel the pain every year. You could just as easily be a Giants or Yankees fan. But then you'd be one of them and they're not real fans like you. They're just bandwagon jumpers who only want to root for a winner and not feel the pain of losing so often. You enjoy the misery because it gives you a false sense of superiority.

Magic Johnson played for the Michigan STATE Spartans also. Plus people from the west side of the state tend to be MSU fans more often. More importantly why am I explaining myself to you? LOL.

I didn't grow up with NFL because my parents are European and still don't understand football. Every 3 games my dad tells me that football is stupid and that "someone can get stabbed at the bottom of that pile and no one would know... those fat guys need to be in the army". Naturally, he didn't pass on any NFL traditions to me so after I figured out what football was, I decided to choose my own team. The team I chose was the newly created Jacksonville Jaguars. I chose them over the Panthers because I liked their helmet better. My best friend was a Jets fan. This is before cable & I couldn't watch Jaguar games because they weren't on tv. So I watched games with my best friend and those happened to be Jets games. This was now 96, the year they ended up going 1-15. Anyway, every game they'd lose and I'd feel bad for him cause he'd get upset so I started rooting for them to win. By the end of the season, I have forgotten the Jaguars and became a Jets fan. Hence the name "second hand jets". I guess you can call me a masochist since I became a fan during their worst season.

I have no idea how I became a Mets fan. For a long while I didn't know all the rules for baseball and I didn't watch games. I had a glove and a bat and I'd play 4 on 4 baseball as a kid. I think I'm a Mets fan because all the Italian kids in my neighborhood (I grew up in very Italian Bensonhurst 2 blocks from Sammy The Bull) were Yankee fans and since my friends were constantly getting bullied by them, we basically did the opposite of what they did. They rooted for the Yankees, I rooted for the Mets. I don't remember when I first watched a full baseball game.

I'm a Bulls fan because of Jordan. I bandwagoned that shit and I can admit it.

Well I'm not entirely sure how I became a Jets fan. I guess it was because in school around 1995-1996 the library got some new books about legendary NFL QBs. They had books about Bradshaw, Namath, Montana, Elway, Marino, etc. Out of all of them I liked the story about the player that guaranteed a win when everybody said his team would lose, and then they did win. A real life Little Giants type of shit. Then I saw the NFL Films story about Super Bowl III and the 68 Jets on ESPN. I did like Barry Sanders but being from west Michigan I had no connection to Detroit and their teams. The Pistons won their championships around the same time I became a Lakers fan, I just never felt anything for them. Same thing with the Lions. I didn't grow up in a big city like NYC, so my friends and classmates were a mixture of Lions, Bears, Packers, and Cowboys fans mostly. Some were Vikings and 49ers fans too. So there was no one team the people around me had an allegiance too. Anyway I didn't really start to follow the Jets closely until Parcells' first season. Trust me if I really cared about jumping on a bandwagon I'd probably be a Broncos fan since they won those back to back Super Bowls around the time I started really getting into football. I figure now that I might as well just stick with the Jets because I know the moment I starting rooting for another team, that's the year the Jets will finally win the Super Bowl. I could be a Bears fan like my brother, but meh. The Bears aren't worth changing teams at this point. But as I've said before I live closer to and have more family ties to Chicago than I do to Detroit.

So basically, you're the reason we haven't won a SB in the last 2 decades.
