Jetsfan115 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 04:35 PM) last one i seen had us taking cooper, a RB, and hundley for our 1st 3 picks. not thrilled about that
Chadforpresi... Icon : (22 April 2015 - 04:38 PM) I don't like Gordon much. Not much of a receiver or blocker, ball security issues, tries to bounce outside too much, stuffed frequently. Gurley is in a league of his own
Chadforpresi... Icon : (22 April 2015 - 04:39 PM) Ray is pretty highly regarded. I'm betting he, Dupree, and Gregory will be our best options as well as edge rushers at 6, but I think that's too high for any of them
Chadforpresi... Icon : (22 April 2015 - 04:43 PM) Personally love Cooper, I know WR isn't our biggest need but he may be the most NFL ready guy in the Draft. If we stick to the 6th pick and Fowler, Beasley, and Mariota are gone, Cooper is the guy to get. I'd even take him over Beasley
Jetsfan115 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 05:45 PM) i don't mind cooper. decker isn't number 1 IMO and marshall is expensive and getting old
Jetsfan115 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 05:45 PM) and we never draft a WR high
Jetsfan115 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 05:45 PM) but o-line and QB are huge needs. i wouldn't take o-line 6th overall, but i think our 2nd or 3rd should be o-line
Jetsfan115 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 05:46 PM) we need an OLB as well. if we don't land a QB i'd like to see OLB adn O-line with 2 of our top 3 picks
Chadforpresi... Icon : (22 April 2015 - 08:16 PM) I agree on Deck, not a true #1 and he's had a checkered history with injuries. Marshall has 2, maybe 3 productive years left, which is why Cooper is an option
Chadforpresi... Icon : (22 April 2015 - 08:17 PM) And I agree with you on edge rusher & OL being bigger needs, but there really isn't a lineman I'd take at 6
Chadforpresi... Icon : (22 April 2015 - 08:19 PM) So the way I see it, assuming Winston and Mariota are taken when we're at 6, that Fowler and Cooper are our best choices, and I'd be stunned if Fowler drops. I wouldn't be surprised (or upset) if we land Cooper
NJAzrael71 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 08:47 PM) Apparently Tennessee wanted both of Cleveland's #1's and their 2nd rounder to move up to the #2 spot to get Mariota. Still think two 1st rounders are too much for Rivers? He makes us instant contenders and if we make a deep playoff run, it would really be this year's 1st and what equates to basically a 2nd rounder next year.
If not, get Cooper in the 1st and then grab Hundley in the 2nd and O-line in the 3rd.
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 10:05 PM) I wouldn't be upset with Cooper, hes a stud
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 10:06 PM) Not sure about Ray. Dupree is rising on the draft boards, ridiculously athletic for his size
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 10:07 PM) Dupree is 6'4 270 and has a amazing get off and runs a 4.5
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 10:09 PM) Problem is he doesn't have big sack numbers in college, I rather draft a productive guy high
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 10:09 PM) Vic Beasley is insanely athletic as well and was hugely productive in college, good bet is that Beasley will be a 10+ sack guy in the NFL
NJAzrael71 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 10:12 PM) Beasley should be a stud but he gets caught up hand fighting if he doesn't beat his guy quickly. He'll likely end up as an OLB but we'll see
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (22 April 2015 - 10:15 PM) He'd be a good fit in our defense, because we could use that speed guy on the outside
Chadforpresi... Icon : (23 April 2015 - 06:27 AM) I'd love Rivers, but we should be able to get him without paying 2 first rounders
Chadforpresi... Icon : (23 April 2015 - 06:29 AM) Lot of buzz about Dupree going top 10, most mocks I see have us getting either Ray or Dupree at 6. I prefer Dupree, like you said insane athlete for his size
Chadforpresi... Icon : (23 April 2015 - 06:30 AM) I like Beasley as well but I have a strong feeling Washington will snag him. But he is a small dude, it'd be nice if he'd add some bulk (in Clemson reportedly played around 230)
Chaos Icon : (23 April 2015 - 10:11 AM) @ArifHasanNFL

.@LanceZierlein says on http://sports790.com that Shane Ray will need surgery on foot, 5 months recovery. "Could drop out of first"
Chaos Icon : (23 April 2015 - 10:14 AM) this should change up the top 10
Chadforpresi... Icon : (23 April 2015 - 12:16 PM) Damn that's big. If he drops out of round 1 that could be a massive bargain for whoever gets him round 2. Dupree now looks more like the edge rusher we'd get at 6
MikeGangGree... Icon : (24 April 2015 - 09:40 PM) TEH RANGERS
santana Icon : (24 April 2015 - 11:32 PM) TEH WIZ
Jetsman05 Icon : (26 April 2015 - 06:57 AM) Teh Suarez
Jetsman05 Icon : (26 April 2015 - 06:58 AM) Vic Beasley is all speed. No moves, no power. Straight up the field. Could have some big games, then nothing in the next
Jetsman05 Icon : (26 April 2015 - 06:59 AM) If we don't get Mariota, we should be looking at Schreff or trading down, IMO.
Jetsman05 Icon : (26 April 2015 - 06:59 AM) A lot of good edge rushers in this draft... I wouldn't want to take Dupree that high.
Jetsman05 Icon : (26 April 2015 - 07:00 AM) Until next time fellas!

Technically this isn't official, Brian seemed to jump the gun. But everything points to this hiring, just waiting to interview Marc Ross for the Rooney rule. Gamble canceled interview with Chargers today, already canceled 2nd interview with Jaguars. Staying in NY, so it looks like this will be made official sometime after they interview Ross on Monday.

Tom Gamble/San Francisco 49ers/Director of Player Personnel: In my 14 years of covering the NFL, I don’t recall getting as many strong comments about a potential GM candidate from high-ranking personnel executives and NFL player agents as I’ve received about Gamble in doing research for this piece. In fact, one NFL GM said my list should start with Gamble for the very fact that he’s about as well-rounded of a candidate as you’ll find.

And when you examine Gamble’s background, you can understand why.

He got started in the NFL at a very young age -- literally right out of college -- with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1988. His father, Harry, was the president of the team at that time. And the younger Gamble was around football growing up. His father was a long-time coach (pro and college) and then moved on to become an NFL executive late in his career.

Like his father, Tom Gamble is a rarity in NFL scouting departments these days: He not only has extensive pro and college scouting experience, he has experience with contract negations and the salary cap, and even has coaching experience (defensive assistant/quality control coach with the New York Jets for two seasons: 1995-1996) on the NFL side. While Gamble was promoted to his current role nearly two years ago, other teams have also been interested in him in recent years (St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders on more than one occasion).

Now in his 25th NFL season, Gamble has worked for five teams over that time period and has touched just about every possible aspect on the personnel side. He has helped build 10 playoff teams (four with the Eagles, five with the Indianapolis Colts, and one with the 49ers—and very likely another one this season).

Before taking a job with the 49ers back in 2005, Gamble worked for seven seasons as a college scout under former Colts GM Bill Polian, who is widely recognized as one of the best personnel evaluators in NFL history.

“He’s got a complete grounding in the game. He grew up in the game,” Polian explained to me recently about Gamble. “This is exceedingly important when you consider there are a lot of issues that you have to deal with when becoming a general manager that will come up with a team. You’re at a big disadvantage if you don’t have this experience in dealing with everything. That’s why non-football people have a harder time succeeding. Because Tom has so much experience and grew up around the game with his dad, he’s going to be more prepared than most. That’s a huge advantage.”

And it’s that extensive experience which should help Gamble land a GM job for next season.

UPDATED 12/21: Two personnel sources said that Gamble should receive attention from at least three teams for expected GM openings next month.

Hire a firm to help your search, pay them 200k, still don't land your candidate. Welcome to the New York Jets.

Add another name to the Jets' general-manager search.

They received permission to interview Colts vice president of football operations Tom Telesco, sources confirmed, but the interview is on hold until he receives word from the Chargers. Telesco and Jimmy Raye are considered the frontrunners for the Chargers' GM vacancy.

Telesco has spent almost his entire career with the Colts, starting as a college and pro scout and spending six years as their director of player personnel. He survived last year's organization housecleaning and was named VP of football operations.

The Jets reached out to Telesco after concluding their meeting with the first round of candidates -- Falcons director of player personnel David Caldwell, 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble, Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross and Jets assistant GM Scott Cohen.

Caldwell became the Jaguars' GM.

Nine days after Woody Johnson fired Mike Tannenbaum, the Jets expanded their general manager search by scheduling interviews with Steelers’ Director of Football & Business Administration Omar Khan and Dolphins assistant general manager Brian Gaine, according to sources.

Khan’s interview will take place Thursday morning, while Gaine’s interview will take place later in the week. The Jets expressed interest in Chargers’ director of player personnel Jimmy Raye, but no interview has been scheduled to this point.

Khan, a general manager candidate in the past few years, has thrived in contract negotiations and salary cap navigation, two areas that the Jets desperately need to improve. Khan has been the Steelers’ chief contract negotiator for more than a decade.

The Jets lost out on coveted candidate David Caldwell after accepted the Jaguars’ G.M. job.

Gang Green is still looking for a point man to repair the organization after owner Woody Johnson made the unconventional decision to fire his general manager and keep his head coach.

The Jets reached out to Colts vice president of football operations Tom Telesco earlier in the week, according to a source, but he accepted the Chargers’ G.M. job on Wednesday.

Niners’ director of player personnel Tom Gamble, believed to have been the front-runner entering the interviewing phase, didn’t dazzle the Jets’ brass during his interview last week, according to a source. Gamble interviewed with the Chargers earlier this week and reportedly is on the Chiefs’ radar as well.

Johnson maintained during a Tuesday press conference that he hasn’t received any indication from prospective candidates that inheriting Ryan as the head coach for the 2013 season would prevent them from accepting the position.

“I think everybody feels like they're pretty fortunate to have Rex because of what they know,” Johnson said. “They know he's a good coach and you can't always say that. It takes one of the uncertainties out of the equation."

Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross and in-house candidate Scott Cohen have also been interviewed. Former Browns G.M. Tom Heckert, who wouldn’t have been received well by the fans due to his recent poor track record, cancelled his interview last week. John Dorsey, the Packers director of player personnel, was in the mix at the start of the process, but he hasn’t been interviewed.

Gaine and Raye have Jets’ ties.

Gaine, a New York native, was a practice squad tight end for the Jets before working in the scouting department for Bill Parcells. Considered a rising star in league circles, Gaine worked for Parcells in Dallas before moving up the ranks with the Dolphins in the past few years. On Wednesday, former Jets Marvin Jones and Wayne Chrebet endorsed Gaine on Twitter. Chrebet called his former teammate a “Great football mind” that was “smart” and “eager.” Gaine interviewed for the Rams’ G.M. job last year.

Raye was the front runner for the Chargers’ job before Telesco blew away the San Diego brass. Raye’s dad, Jimmy Raye II, was an assistant coach for Herman Edwards and Eric Mangini.

Khan’s and Angelo’s interviews will take place Thursday. Gaine’s interview will likely take place later in the week. The Jets expressed interest in Chargers’ director of player personnel Jimmy Raye, but no interview has been scheduled to this point.

The Jets will interview a few more candidates this week, according to sources.

Angelo, who was the Bears' G.M. from 2001-2011, was the architect of a team that went to the Super Bowl in the 2006 season. Khan, a general manager candidate in the past few years, has thrived in contract negotiations and salary cap navigation, two areas that the Jets desperately need to improve. Khan has been the Steelers’ chief contract negotiator for more than a decade.
