I didn't read the article but after hearing about it on tv and reading the comments I can say we don't know all the facts.Guessing is a waste of time

Put it this way..... could the guy be gay and made her up to hide his true self from a bunch of testosterone filled straight guys?? Yes it is possible.

But also the guy may have not been good with meeting girls and is the subject of an online hoax. Its not like it hasn't been done before.

Hell I did it to a friend like 15 years a go as a joke. His wife was a pos(divorced now. I know it takes two but he is one of those clingy type guys that will take anything from a woman just to be with one and latch on to the first one who gives him attention. She messed around him and didn't work and just laid around the house and literally did nothing.

Anyway basically as a joke I started instant messaging him on online and acted like I was a woman. I could only go so far with it so I got my wife in on it. It was all just fun and games. Basically we made up a profile of a model in Hawaii with a pic and im`d him. I just wanted to see as a joke how dedicated he was to his pos wife. So we messed with him for a couple of weeks going as far as saying that the fake girl was really interested in him and needed a good man and wanted him to come down to Hawaii and stay with her.

We left him a couple of clues so after a few weeks he figured it out and we had a good laugh about it but he was obviously interested in a better life so.......

All I'm saying could he just be a dumb ass who got caught up with an online fake girlfriend made as a joke on him and never knew the truth and when they got tired of messing with him they figured instead of spilling the beans they figured they would just kill her off.

Its not like people never lie online in their profiles on dating sites and such.


Best thing to do is just reserve judgement until all the facts come out....if they ever do.

People are so homophobic that they come up with this as a person's main reason for a hoax. He couldn't have done it for puiblicity, or possibly been tricked. nah he's just gay. seriously?


and its not just that people say that, but they say it so negatively like something is wrong with him. i mean stupidity of this magnitude is why i don't bother anymore, but to not point out how rediculous you are sounding with these statements is just something i cannot do.

So you wanna start? Okay we'll start.

First of all I said that was my OWN speculation. Just because Te'O said he was duped doesn't make it true. Could he have been a victim of a cruel hoax like he says, yes he could. But there are still too many holes in this story and things that we already know that makes him being a victim of a hoax unlikely. Somebody close to him if not him himself told the South Bend Tribune the story about how he met his "girlfriend" at a Stanford game back in 2009. That story appeared in the South Bend Tribune back in October BEFORE December which is when Notre Dame and Te'O both say they found out about the girl not being real. THIS is a fact.

Who said Te'O met his "girlfriend" at the 2009 Stanford game? His father (who never met her in person) maybe? It doesn't really say. The guy who wrote that article (Eric Hansen) said this in a radio interview:

And I said, 'Can you confirm that this person passed and kind of help me understand who this was to Manti?' And he did confirm it. And so these were two sources that I believed in, that I had not been dealing with for the first time. I think there's people that maybe expected me and some other people in the media to go [dig] up a corpse. I did try to, at some point, google her obituary and couldn't find it. And yet I've done that with friends' parents in the past and I've not been able to find theirs either. So I figured it was operator error on my part. I think, Dan, that when you're in our business that you learn to trust people and Manti Te'o was a guy I'd interviewed dozens of times, spent time with at the homeless center, saw him three-dimensionally outside of football. And he's a guy that I trusted, and I guess to a certain extent still do trust. Until I get the final picture I still do trust him. And maybe I'm the naive one in this picture but you have to rely on sources."

But still even after that story was published in October, Te'O did nothing between October 12th and the release of the Deadspin article on January 16th to dispute the story about meeting her at the Stanford game in 2009. Nobody not Te'O, his family, or Norte Dame asked the South Bend Tribune to print a correction. SOMETHING is off there.

The reason I speculated he is gay is because I was looking for a logical explanation for all of this. I would like to think he didn't use the "my girlfriend died of cancer the same day my grandma died" story as a way to get some positive publicity. I don't want to think that. He would be a scumbag IF that were true. To me it's much better for him to a closeted homosexual rather than a scumbag looking to get some pity and publicity. But I'm looking for why was he not more clear and IN MY OPINION all the facts that we do know points to him trying to hide something. He and his family are Mormons, Mormons are well known for being strongly opposed to homosexuality. How many openly gay Mormons have you ever heard of? Plus he plays at a Catholic school. Another church strongly opposed to homosexuality. Both churches believe it to be a sin and that it is a choice. I believe (like most people who believe in biology) that a person is born gay and that it is not a choice. Imagine the conflict a person who is born gay but is taught that being gay is a sin must feel. Then you add to that that there are NO openly gay football players in the NFL. Every gay football player who has played in the NFL came out AFTER they retired. Te'O will be just starting his pro career this year. Plus (though I have no proof) I tend to believe that there are more David Tyrees in NFL and NCAA locker rooms than there are Chris Kluwes. Te'O if he were to come out now would be breaking new ground. Which is something he may not be ready to do and may not feel up to the task (even in 2013). Plus he would not be the first closeted homosexual to lie to his friends and family about a "log distance girlfriend" to cover up their true feelings. But unlike most people who have done that he (Te'O) is a public figure and the amount of media attention (and NFL scout attention) he was beginning to receive last fall would have eventually blown the "long distance girlfriend" story out of the water.


But now apparently as I'm typing this there is a Washington Post reporter (Melinda Henneberger) on Hardball talking about this and she says he was dating other women at Notre Dame. Apparently some of his teammates were worried about him calling the unseen girlfriend the love of his life to the media while he was seeing other girls at Notre Dame. So maybe he's not gay. But if he was seeing other girls while grieving over his dead "girlfriend" in public, it makes him look more like a scumbag than a homosexual. I now hope that for his sake that he is gay or a victim of a hoax, because otherwise all of this doesn't make him look good the the eyes of the public.

Just when we all thought the story of Manti Te’o’s fake/dead girlfriend couldn’t get any weirder, it, well, does.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser posted a story Friday saying Te’o's fictitious girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, called Te’o on Dec. 6 and told he she faked her death to evade drug dealers.
And we're officially off the rails.

Te’o and Kekua had been dating since 2011 when Kekua supposedly passed away in September after a short bout with leukemia. Te’o, heartbroken, used several media outlets to tell the story of his girlfriend and the inspiration she provided him, but said this week he did not know she did not exist. He did acknowledge that their relationship was online and on the phone and that he had never actually met Kekua in person.

So, imagine Te’o’s surprise when Kekua, who has been dead for nearly three months, calls Te’o and tells him her tale of woe.

According to the article, Kekua – or whoever the person is posing as Kekua – tried to start the relationship back up again, but Te’o was leery of it. He asked Kekua to send him a photo with a date stamp on it so he could verify that was really her. She sent him the photo, but it was not enough to convince him. In the following weeks, he went to his family and coaches and told them he had been the victim of a hoax that began in 2009.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick confirmed Wednesday that Te’o did receive a call on Dec. 6 from a woman he thought to be his deceased girlfriend. Swarbrick also said after the initial call, there were subsequent attempts to restart the relationship.

It’s difficult to imagine which way this story is going to turn next. Whoever was impersonating Kekua must have had a reason to want to try to restart the relationship knowing it would be risky and Te’o might finally – after three years – find out it was all a scam.

Unfortunately, with Te’o not talking and lot of questions still floating around about Kekua, Te’o’s involvement in the hoax and Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the alleged perpetrator of the hoax, we might never know what really happened.
