Alright, last retarded hypothetical trade that will never ever happen in real life. I promise.

Revis & Sanchez to the Chargers for Rivers?

Why the Chargers would do it: New management is not tied to Rivers. Rivers is on the last year of his contract and has obviously regressed the last 2 years. SD is not winning anything in the AFC West until Peyton retires, so they probably will work on a 3 year plan. Revis automatically becomes the face of the franchise and is the best player in the NFL at the biggest hole on the Chargers: pass defense (and when you play Peyton twice a year, you need better than average pass defense). Sanchez can be sold to the fans as a reclamation project that got shafted by bad management in NYC and now has the opportunity to flourish with a big WR core and back in South Cal.

Why the Jets would do it: we're treading water as far as the cap goes and Revis will want a new max deal in a year. We simply cannot afford him. Considering that we finished 5th in pass defense without him, it's safe to assume that he's a luxury. The money earmarked for him can be better spent by locking up Landry and looking to maybe get a cheaper FA ball hawking safety as well as just having some money so we don't have guys off the street at key position come November. Getting rid of Sanchez and his contract is self explanatory. Getting Rivers is a gamble, but at this point, what's better? Going all in with Rivers or drafting and developing a QB that may or may not work out? Rivers, at his best, is the best QB in the history of the franchise. Rivers at his worst is basically Brett Favre when he hurt his arm but refused to stop throwing into triple coverage. Either way, he's better than anything we can get in 2013.

I wouldn't make that trade even if it was possible. To begin with, a team doesn't lose money against the cap because they trade someone. So Revis and Sanchez would still count heavily. Secondly, I am not a Rivers fan at all. Yes - he is better than Sanchez (everyone is) but I don't think you realize how important Revis is. This year we didn't blitz, and were much more susceptible to the run because we couldn't isolate the other teams best receiver and take him out of the game. That used to leave us with an extra man to blitz, play an 8 man front or whatever.

In the last season before this one (2011) Revis graded out to 24.5 in a rating system of all players. Don't ask me how they get these numbers or what they mean other than to show effectiveness. The second highest rated cornerback graded out at 17.5! Normally there are tenths of a point difference between players. This difference is unheard of. He is by far the best CB in the league and if his injury doesn't destroy him, he will eventually go down as maybe the best of all time.

And we're going to consider giving him up for Rivers?

Rivers is a hugely overrated QB. No way. He is a better Cutler. A physically talented player who isn't much of a leader.

And I think a big part our pass defense being highly ranked was how bad our run defense was. When you can't stop the run teams don't need to throw.

1 int for every 4 tis is a pretty nice ratio to me

Bottomfeeder Tracker: 6-17 vs teams with a winning record.

How can that be? If Player A is owed $4M and he's traded, that $4M is traded with him. No?

I think that trade would be terrible idea. Revis is one of the all time elite at his position.

We know nothing about Rivers now. He had a bad 2012. Could it be the quality of teammates?? Yes it could but it could also be that Rivers is starting to go down hill.If Rivers was at the top of his game the trade might make some sense but not at this point.

Its to much of a risk even though an aging Rivers would still be a big upgrade over Sanchez.

If Revis is involved in a trade it had better be for the first draft pick for and almost sure bet or an equally elite player in return.

With all that said I do think the chances of Revis retiring as a Jet are very slim unless he ends his career over an injury. As long as he is at the peak of his game and playing levels above the rest of the cb`s in the league and the money he costs he will always be trade bait.

In this day and age almost no one stays their whole career with one only team. After qb`s the chances of a player in any other position staying with one team their whole career is very very slim. I'm pretty sure most hof`rs played with more than one team and its a definite for most current and recent players that are future Hof`rs.

Regardless, with the newest hires, if the Jets are getting a new QB, the most likely ones are Flynn and Vick.
