Jets hire John Idzik from Seahawks to be general manager

The Jets have hired John Idzik from Seattle as their new general manager, according to a league source.
Idzik was a key member of Seattle's front office and served as a chief negotiator and salary-cap manager and also had a personnel component to his responsibilities. He had been negotiating with the Jets following his second interview there this week.
The Steelers' Omar Khan and Scott Cohen, the Jets' assistant GM, were also given strong consideration, sources said. Idzik must get the team's cap in place and work through some challenging contracts.
The Jets informed all candidates they must retain head coach Rex Ryan for 2013, sources said, though more change could be coming next offseason. The Jets have numerous holes in their coaching staff as well, including both coordinators, with the Senior Bowl fast approaching next week.
They continue to interview coordinator candidates, including former Browns head coach Pat Shurmur.
