Maybe not.
Revis “could still be a member of the 2013 team,” as the Jets aren’t “actively shopping” the NFL’s top cornerback, according to the New York Post.
The team has been entertaining offers but isn’t “committed” to making a move, the Post reported.
The New York Daily News reported on Tuesday that the Jets were “poised” to trade Revis “in the coming days at the right price.” Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have emerged as major players in the sweepstakes for the Jets star, according to multiple reports.
“Everything’s a possibility, but we’re not allowed to talk about players under contract with other teams,” Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano told the NFL Network on Wednesday.
“We’re trying to get better and anybody that can help us do that, they’re definitely on our radar,” he added.
Among “several tradeproposals” received by the Jets, the Bucs’ offer wasn’t enough to blow general manager John Idzik away, the Post reported. In fact, the Jets don’t believe “any trade is imminent” and there’s a “thought within the organization” that Revis could begin the final year of his contract with Gang Green, according to the paper.
Revis hasn’t been on the field since suffering a torn ACL in September. The 27-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2013 season if he doesn’t skip any mandatory team activities.
He’ll be looking to sign one of the NFL’s most lucrative contracts for a defensive player — something Jets owner Woody Johnson reportedly isn’t willing to offer. Revis will receive a $1 million roster bonus on Saturday if he’s still a member of the Jets.
Idzik is “leaving all of his options open” — and that includes the possibility of Revis playing out the year, the Post reported.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Idzik hasn’t given Revis’ agents the go-ahead to talk with clubs wondering whether the cornerback is healthy and willing to be more than just a one-year rental, hindering potential deal-making.
The Jets and Revis’ representatives “haven’t talked for weeks,” and there “has been almost no contact” between Idzik and the four-time Pro Bowler, Yahoo! Sports reported earlier this week.
