[quote] Polian's definition of the three tiers:
A Players: Worth paying big, starter-caliber money.
B Players: Guys I would sign but only if the value made sense.
C Players: Guys I'd sign for low-salary, short-term (one or two years) value, with low bonuses.
Polian mentions only five Jets in his rankings, which is interesting because he was invited by owner Woody Johnson to participate in some of the team's recent general-manager interviews.
Anyway, here you go:
'A' FREE AGENTS
S LaRon Landry: Landry had a good year for a bad team. He's a striker, a big hitter. While he is a little older, he's still a pretty serviceable player. We're closer to B territory now, but for a team looking for a safety, he could do a good job.
'B' FREE AGENTS
DT Mike DeVito: He's a hard-playing run-defender, and teams that play the 3-4 will take a look at him as a valuable role player.
Other B free agents: RB Shonn Greene, TE Dustin Keller, RG Brandon Moore [/qoute]

Landry isn't worth breaking the bank for. Good player and was nice seeing him lay guys out, but he'll be 29 next season and we can find other safeties especially with being close to having a real pass rush. If Landry would come back at a reasonable number, I'd bring him back but we'll see.
I would like to bring back Keller. First off hes only had Sanchez throwing him the ball his entire career, besides his rookie year with Favre. He fits in with our new WCO scheme Marty runs. We lack offensive skill players. A better QB may be able to utilize Keller better. He was improving every season, had a unfortunate season with not being able to stay healthy.

Problem is money. I certainly agree if he is available at a reasonable cost we would be silly not to pursue. But he is far from invaluable and the position calls for only so much money.

From what I have been reading we are not in as bad of shape with the cap as most people are saying. When Scott, Pace and Smith are gone we will have some money to play with. I think it would be silly for us not to try to keep above average or better players. Laundry Keller, and BE are some of them. It all comes down to the dollar though. We wont get better by getting rid of good players.

its a fair assessment. i'd love to keep keller. him and cumberland are the only decent TEs we have. devito was good but can go. we drafted coples and wilk back to back in the 1st round the past 2 years so paying big money for a DE isn't smart. i'd like to keep landry too but he's probably cost too much. unless we trade off wilson or cro i can't see us affording him
