Darrelle Revis Not Happy With Jets

Darrelle Revis was stunned that general manager John Idzik did not dismiss trade rumors involving the star New York Jets cornerback on Idzik's first day on the job. Now Revis is explaining why, and it's clear he's still irritated about it.

"I was speechless; I tweeted it out I was speechless," Revis told NFL Network's Andrea Kremer in an interview that aired Monday night. "I was speechless because I didn't get a phone call. I know it's a business, just call me, don't have it lingering out there. I need answers and I'm not getting any."

The network is continuing to follow Revis throughout his rehab from ACL surgery for a series called "Health of the Game."

"Just the fact that that was put out there instead of contacting your best player on the team. If that's how you want to do business, then that's fine," Revis told NFL Network.

Angering the Jets' best player on his first day in Florham Park probably wasn't the way Idzik wanted to start out, but as of now it sounds like he and Revis haven't exactly mended fences. Revis has always had a contentious relationship with the front office. He held out of camp twice when Mike Tannenbaum was GM as his contract was being negotiated.

Revis was under the impression that his most recent contract, signed during the 2010 "Hard Knocks" season, would be reworked after the first two years. He decided not to hold out last summer and tore his ACL in the third quarter of an overtime win in Miami in September. Antonio Cromartie played exceptionally well in Revis' absence, but the Jets went 6-10 and owner Woody Johnson fired Tannenbaum.

Revis has a year remaining on his deal and there is some uncertainty -- will he return as the best corner in the game or will he have lingering health issues? The Jets have the option of trying to get value on the market before his condition is fully known, or keep Revis on the team knowing he still wants a new contract.

The Jets are in a bit of a bind with salary cap issues and are expected to cut some veteran players before the start of free agency. Even with that, the Jets lack flexibility due in part to Mark Sanchez's contract, which guarantees the quarterback more than $8 million for the coming season.

thats dumb because first off idzik didn't confirm or deny any rumor thrown his way

I watched the interview, I think he was more upset with Woody Johnson and doesn't know if Woody wants to keep him a Jet. He says he thinks Idzik is a straight forward guy and had a conversation with him and how Idzik told him he doesn't know whats going on since he just got the job.

I hope they keep him, I hate it when this team gets rid of great players. It feels like we take 1 step forward 2 steps back always..

I feel like he has every right to be mad. The Jets probably should have approached him with an offer to extend him before the trade speculation began. If he accepted, good, great, grand, wonderful. If he declined, make it public and then toss out trade rumors. That way he looks like the bad guy. The team already has a public image problem, and they need to begin taking affirmative actions to fix it.

Fellas, I love me some Revis, but lets be REAL about it. Does any one NOT think come contract time he will bend the organization over & break the bank? Yes he is under contract for this year...but then he will want to be the highest defensive player in the league...& we have to many holes to fill to spend THAT much on a DB no matter how GREAT he is. It would be awesome if we could keep him, he would make for a great career JET...but the dollars are to much & we can get a couple players for the same money. (not his level, but good to above average)

Trade him. Revis is a great player but his future earnings (if we give him the new contract he is seeking) will seriously hurt the team. I'd rather the jets pay 3 starting players 16 million / year than have to watch this team pay one player 16 million a year that is a non-qb. If the jets can get a first and a 2nd plus some other lower picks....they need to do this. It sucks because revis has hall of fame potential, but he is pricing him self out of new york if the contract numbers are being reported accurately.

right, cause writers never "interpret things incorrectly" to make a story seem bigger then it is. You have a lot to learn about the world. Why would a band-aid have a claus that says if he holds out any time during the 4 year contract that it extends to a 7 year contract. I'm not gonna explain the mechanics cause your either too stubborn or too dense to understand it, but if it was really a 2 year band aid and he was under that impression then why would he allow a claus saying that if he tries to hold out for more money any time during the 4 year deal, that he would add 3 more years to the deal on the cheap.

Any GM who takes over a team and doesn't call their best player(s) instantly isn't someone I want taking the job.

Of course, we did hire someone with a CV that doesn't really add up to being a GM, in my eyes.

Good thing you're not the boss then. Revis acts like he's a partner of the NY Jets for fvck sake. Does this little d0uchebag not understand that he is an EMPLOYEE and not the boss? Idzik didn't owe him a damn thing but yet he took the time to calm the little crying b!tch down anyway and was straight with him. He didn't know what was going to happen yet & that YES.....Revis WOULD BE evaluated just like anyone else on the damn team AS HE SHOULD BE. Revis isn't above anyone else on the team. That's why it's called a TEAM. Revis claims to be the best on the team. I say bvllshit. He isn't fit to play a single down right now is he? There's a HUGE difference between keeping your employees happy & allowing them to run the business which is what Revis thinks he can do. Why does Revis continue to demand to be treated like a diva? Because people are dumb enough to let him.

You keep saying Revis IS the best player on the team. Let me ask you something.......Right this moment....TODAY....can Revis play better defense than Kyle Wilson let alone Cromartie? Can he go toe for toe with receivers and defend passes, tackle, make cuts & INT's? If not, then he's not the best player on the team right now today is he? You continue to live on his PAST production. By that logic, we should just re-sign Broadway Joe as QB since he's the guy that led us to & was the QB when we won SB3. It's no different. Both of them live off their past and nothing more.

Essentially, Revis already HAS been treated differently than any other player. Anyone else would've been gone LONG ago with how he's held out, talked down about the team & demanded a new contract every 3rd year. He's entering his 7th pro season & has demanded new money 3 times in his short career along with downing not only his coaches, but the front office & then ultimately the owner. Does he want them to hire someone to wipe his as$ for him every time he takes a $hit too? That's how ridiculous that statement is that he should be treated differently than anyone else. Why the hell do you think we haven't won anything in 44 years? This is a TEAM game. Not an individual one. The only times that we came close was when we had people playing to help each other win by being TEAMMATES. Not Divas.

Look at the teams that have won recently........what divas were there that singlehandedly won a Superbowl?

Wow, before I even scrolled down to read your post you said exactly what I was about to post. I'll say it again though. I'm glad we don't have a game today, next week, or next month. Who cares if Revis can't play today? The Jets aren't scheduled to play a game today or any time soon. The blind hate he has for Revis is hilarious.
