With the New York Jets expected to release Tim Tebow in the next few weeks, the team worked out veteran free agent David Garrard on Thursday as a possible backup for Mark Sanchez, the New York Daily News reported.
Garrard, 35, spent nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars but has not played in the NFL since the 2010 season. He has passed for 16,003 yards, completing 61.6 percent of his attempts for 89 touchdowns.
ESPN reports that the Jets also are interested in free agent QB Brady Quinn.

He's better than anyone we currently on the roster...and he is a low turn-over rate QB. I'm ok with it, from what I've read we are looking to bring in another vet for training camp anyways.

This team is rebuilding, I'd rather let one of our young QB's have the regins for the year and see what we've got.

Who exactly is the young QB? Simms or McElroy? Jets have nothing on the roster in terms of QB. Tebow is gone sooner or later. It's either those two or Sanchez right now.

I remember when the debate was who would be the starter between Clemens or Ratliff. That draft they traded up for Sanchez, who obviously isnt what's expected of him, but the team nonetheless made the move to secure what they feel is a franchise QB. Granted its a fucked up cap situation and i don't know how it would get done, and I'm not being paid in order to figure out how to make anything happen, but i think something could be brewing

Sanchez was needed when the Jets drafted him and something needs to be done this offseason regarding the QB position again. Based on what everyone is saying and what I have read, I don't really like any of the QB prospects that are coming out. I think this draft should be used to just get some young depth and hopefully Idzik can nail it in most of the rounds. I like Garrard and think he'll be a more than adequate stop gap solution.

I just want the Jets to be competitive this coming season more than anything despite how bad it looks right now.

David Garrard while he was healthy yes, but hasn't played a meaningful game since what 2011? It's going to take FAR more than a subpar to average QB to make this team competitive with all the holes we have. Might as well give someone who is young a chance to prove that they could potentially be a starter.

As a backup he would be decent, but I doubt Garrard could make it through a full season, especially with this swiss cheese offensive line we have.

Doubt he can stay healthy, but if he can this would be a very good signing. Hes the best QB available, but hes 35 and has health issues. We aren't getting a elite QB, so creating competition is the best they can do for this year.

I rather bring in Garrard than someone like Brady Quinn who isn't any better than Tebow.
