SecondHandJets Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:25 PM) I've read a ton of articles and all had him as the favorite
SecondHandJets Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:25 PM) Who was the favorite then?
SecondHandJets Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:27 PM) "Smith was already going to be on most Heisman preseason lists, but a 407-yard, 6-TD performance in the Orange Bowl win over Clemson only solidified him as an elite passer. He can make every throw on the field and has a plethora of talented receivers coming back. Since this team will likely be playing in the Big 12, which has had the uncanny knack for inflating quarterback numbers recently, Smith and head coach Dana Holgorsen are going to leave opposing defenses charred and crippled on most Saturdays."
SecondHandJets Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:27 PM) That's from a Jan 2012 article

SecondHandJets Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:32 PM) He was 4th according to Vegas odds in April 2012
Jetsman05 Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:53 PM) 4th makes him the favorite?
Jetsman05 Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:53 PM) you said he was the favorite
Jetsman05 Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:53 PM) he wasn't anything near the favorite
Jetsman05 Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:54 PM) he reached his pinnacle in the heisman race in the early part of last season
Jetsman05 Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:54 PM) at that point he was the favorite
Jetsman05 Icon : (24 May 2013 - 09:56 PM) also, what a basketball game
MikeGangGree... Icon : (24 May 2013 - 10:21 PM) 4 point game
MikeGangGree... Icon : (24 May 2013 - 10:21 PM) maybe the pacers are that good
SecondHandJets Icon : (Yesterday, 12:36 AM) I said that his time last year, he was the favorite. I misspoke. He was 3rd or 4th. He certainly wasn't "not even in the 2nd tier" like you claimed

SecondHandJets Icon : (Yesterday, 12:36 AM) Maybe you should watch more college football instead of talking about watching college football
Jetsman05 Icon : (Yesterday, 06:46 AM) No he wasn't 3rd or 4th
Jetsman05 Icon : (Yesterday, 06:47 AM) He was the 4th favorite in vegas, making him no where near the favorite
Jetsman05 Icon : (Yesterday, 06:47 AM) Barkley had 3/2 odds, Geno was 9-1
Jetsman05 Icon : (Yesterday, 06:48 AM) It's whatever

Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Yesterday, 10:51 AM) About time
SecondHandJets Icon : (Yesterday, 11:22 AM) Was he "not even in the 2nd tier"? No. STFU

Jetsman05 Icon : (Yesterday, 11:26 AM) Or even close to the favorite?

According to the Arizona Republic, "there is no indication" the Cardinals have approached Kolb about restructuring his contract yet, but if Kolb is to return, "it’s going to be for less" than the $11 million he's due. Kolb's scheduled base salary is $9 million. If the sides can't strike a reworked arrangement, Kolb would make sense for the Jets in a reunion with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Not much of a upgrade over Sanchez, but had some big games under Marty. Our OL is much better than the Cardinals.

:banghead: First Brady Quinn and now Kevin Kolb, we're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for QBs.

Rather Kolb than Quinn. At least he has some experience with Mornhinweg.

I keep reading all these average abs will be available but we already have an average qb on the roster in Sanchez. I know he played poorly last year but he was surrounded by garbage. Wasting our most valuable resource (cap space) on average qb depth does not seem good. Would rather get depth in O-line WRs TE ect.....Replacing tony should be an upgrade as well. Maybe add a guy in the draft if we can get a guy in the right place as well.

But then that logic dictates starting Sanchez which likely won't go down well with the fan base (there is of course McElroy but there seems to be no indication that he'll be in the frame for the starting spot next year).

It's slim pickings when it comes to FA QBs, and even slimmer pickings when it comes to draftable QBs. The best option therefore is to bring in an affordable veteran (Kolb, Moore, Flynn if released) and chuck him in the mix. Saying that, I wouldn't pay Kolb anything close to half the $9 million he is scheduled to earn as base salary.

To be honest Moore is the only guy I would sign out of who is currently available. He played a little above average with tony being his coach. That should say something. Sign Moore, let him, Sanchez McElroy and maybe a rookie fight it out in training camp.

The fan base will only be happy when we are winning which will not be next year regardless of who is playing QB.Probably not even then. Making moves because of the fan base is a short term gain and long term problem.

kevin kolb last season....4-1 in games he finished last season (left the game due to injury against buffalo when it was tied---for those who want to say 4-2). 8 TDs 3 Ints. He beat seattle and new england...2 playoff teams. 86 qb rating, 60 percent completion rate. Not gaudy stats but solid for a young player with not a whole lot of starts under his belt.

Just saying....

"I'm glad that the Gillette field was soft and messy
since I spent so much time down on it."-Tom Brady

Based on the Jets current QB situation, what the market looks like, and what the draft is predicted to be, going into next season with Kolb, Garrard, Sanchez is leaps and bounds ahead of going into next season with McElroy, Tebow, Sanchez. As long as the QBs that are being signed are given smart contracts, the Jets will be doing nothing. Sanchez needs legitimate competition at the next camp.
