Mike Devito Reportedly A Priority For New York Jets

The New York Jets' salary-cap woes are no secret, but the money shortage hasn't stopped new general manager John Idzik from trying to keep his own free agents
A week ago the team was trying to re-sign safety LaRon Landry, who is reportedly seeking at least $6 million per year as a free agent. Now the Jets have turned their attention to run-stuffing defensive lineman Mike DeVito, according to a report by ESPN New York on Saturday.
Rich Cimini views DeVito as the "best bet to stick around" among the Jets' free agents
Beyond the salary-cap implications, though, there is one significant roadblock toward a new deal for DeVito. According to The Star-Ledger, six teams have already touched base with DeVito's agent this weekend.
If DeVito is going to stick around, the Jets are going to have to pay a premium for a solid starter

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I know!!!! its because its the Jets!!!
The only thing that makes sense is he wanted more money than what the Jets thought the market would bring so they let him test it. Otherwise it seems silly to create competition for ourselves

Analysis: NFL.com's Ian Rapoport tweeted Tuesday that DeVito received a three-year, $12.6 million deal from the Chiefs.
So we cut Po'uha to sign DeVito, and then don't sign DeVito. Has Star Lotulelei been cleared, and will he be available at #9?

Jets couldn't afford that kind of contract for devito. They can find a run stuffer for cheaper.

Disappointing to see DeVito go as he was a consistently solid player. But with the money he received from Kansas City and our cap situation, it probably made sense not to match their offer, especially with Mo Wilkerson and Quinton Coples already at DE. Still, we're now very thin along the defensive line and DeVito's versatility (the ability to play a end in a three man front and shift inside when we went with four men) will be missed.
Best of luck to him though, except for when KC face the Jets.

devito was a solid blue collar hard working guy. but we drafted copes and wilkerson with 1st round picks the pats 2 years. they will be our starters for the next 5+ years. we couldn't pay devito starter money. its nice to see him get to start elsewhere.
we can't afford that our line will all be ryan draft picks now (wilkerson, ellis, coples)
we need to find some OLBs
