Jets 0-2 vs bills this year. Does Rex Ryan survive the year?
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (26 November 2014 - 10:52 AM) Mehta interprets the muzzling of Rex Ryan as proof positive that, once the season ends, Ryan will no longer be the team’s head coach. Apparently, the team fears that Rex would become more sympathetic in the eyes of the fan base if he’s dumped by the team at a time when his father is fighting a serious illness.
santana Icon : (26 November 2014 - 11:05 AM) Mehta is an idiot
santana Icon : (26 November 2014 - 11:25 AM) If colt McCoy lights it up do the jets make a move?
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (26 November 2014 - 11:27 AM) I don't even care what they do for a while
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (26 November 2014 - 11:28 AM) The team is a catastrophe

Chaos Icon : (26 November 2014 - 11:33 AM) it's a very Jets-esque move to sign McCoy if he does well
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (26 November 2014 - 11:53 AM) I think they sign RGIII, Cutler, or Bradford
santana Icon : (26 November 2014 - 12:10 PM) why not all three
HarlemHxC814 Icon : (26 November 2014 - 12:11 PM) Knowing this team, I wouldn't put that past them

Everyone is all worked up about how bad we're going to be, and I'll probably catch flack for saying this. But we NEED TO BE BAD. We need to tear down and rise from the ashes, not to toil in mediocrity for the next 5 years. We need a franchise QB, and you get one of those by sucking, just ask the Colts. Do we wanna be the Bucs (or replace the word "Bucs" with "Chargers", "Vikings", "Bears", or "Cowboys") for the next 5 years? A team considered "always on the fringe" led by a slightly above average QB who will probably never lead them to the Ship? Can't we just have a bright future for once? We need to shoot for another franchise quarterback, not a 2nd round Ryan Nassib or Tyler Wilson to manage games for the next half decade. I want I guy that can WIN games, and I'll exchange one horrendously shitty season for a shot at a decade of 10 win seasons.
"I thought he was good?!? If he prays when he scores. Everyone knew him for praying. That only can mean he scores :)"

Quote from my wife when I told her I liked Tebow, but that he sucks as a QB

Am I wrong here or what? Shouldn't the jets (assuming they were hell bent on moving him) have waited until the first 5 or 6 picks were off the board to be sure there were 2 guys available that we really liked?? I think we got fleeced too. The most talented jet EVER for what we got? I hope they aren't planning on packaging the 9th and 13th to move up.

What are the odds that either pick becomes a perennial pro bowl player much less the best to ever play the position?

You never know what could come out of those draft picks.

They're doing the opposite. Heard jets wanna move down from the 9th pick

And I'll enjoy saying I told YOU so when Roddy White, Julio Jones, Steve Smith and Marques Colston all make him look washed up and eliminate any dreams of a Hall of Fame bid. You may be right about Sanchez throwing an INT but that is no telling of what a CB has left in the tank. Just think.......Revis will get to be abused at least twice a year by Drew Brees AND Matt Ryan.

Someone call the cops... WE GOT ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!

First off, the Jets got less for Revis than the Bucs would have had to give up to trade up for a chance to draft Milliner! How the hell is this even possible? We gave away a future HOFer for less than it will take to move up 5 draft slots! Absolutely moronic.

The crazy part is, the Bucs gave Revis $0 guaranteed money! It's pay to play! Holy fucktard Woody Johnson! You could've locked up the best player this franchise ever had at ABSOLUTELY NO RISK!!!!

This is probably what the French felt like after the Louisiana Purchase.

Well.....I have to say we can finally agree on something again. Woodys been pulling the strings for years. When they brought in ol' Greybeard Favre, when they brought in Teblow and now with the taking less for Revis in order to get anything at all for him. It's just a shame that Revis couldn't have made a concerted effort to negotiate with the Jets in good faith. He could have stayed a Jet for life but he wanted all kinds of crazy guaranteed money from us but then accepts NO guaranteed at all from Tampa. That alone tells me he wanted out of NY all along because he wanted that payday and he knows that the Jets aren't getting back to being a real contender for a few years. After the last AFC Championship trip, Woody and Tanny let go of too much in order to satisfy Revis. They decided not to go through it yet again.

To everyone who thinks the jets got fleeced / are disgusted with the trade...you have to look at it this way. The jets had no chance at re-signing him next year. He couldn't be franchised. Revis was going to go to the highest bidder. The jets had no chance considering they had 0 interest in paying him 16 million a year. Revis is a money first guy. He wants to be paid...thats it, end of story. So we get a first and a 3rd this year, or we get revis for one more year and then get a conditional 3rd round pick in 2015 for him. The jets shipped him off to tampa, an NFC team. The Jets had NO leverage. They took what they could get. Honestly, in this situation...the jets made out about as good as they could have. I wish we could have gotten more but it is what it is. The jets esentially traded revis for whoever we take at 13. Would have been nice to get another high pick to help this team but not having to pay revis should allow the jets to sign multiple quality free agents down the road.

I am bummed but revis made it clear that he cared more about the money than staying with this team and trying to make it work. Revis forced himself out of here with his contract demands. He got his money, enjoy playing for the bucs.

And Revis and the no Guarenteed money topic. He's actually getting 16 million a year. So as long as he plays 2 years with the bucs, he'll have made 32 million. He'll be with the bucs for 2 seasons so esentially he is getting 32 million G'd plus however long he plays out his contract. Revis did alright.

Wrong. The Jets had the exclusive right of negotiating with him for the next 10 months. The Jets will be ~$50M under the cap in 2014 (once we bounce Sanchez and Holmes). That's a ton of money... who do we spend it on? Do we bring in more FAs? Yea. That's what's going to end up happening. We'll sign another Calvin Pace type and another Holmes. We won't ever get a chance to spend that money on a player of Revis' caliber simply because future HOFers in their prime don't hit the FA market. Ever. So yea, we could've just put away the dog and pony show and signed him for the same amount the Bucs are paying him... but no, we grandstanded, drew a line in the sand and gave him away for 20 cents on the dollar. Absolutely disgusting.

just laughing at some of the statements on this board. all of a sudden revis is a bum? cant cover roddy white etc...
he's all about the money etc...

if your the best at what you do in the work place and your peers are less apt.
would you sit quiet while they all get raises and you just get the good guy award?

the analogy doesn't serve pro nfl players justice because getting top dollar for your value is more at risk than the avg. working guy.
stop drinking the owner's cool aid when players are demonized for the money while the owners play broke.

revis, brady, rodgers, l. fitzgerald, etc. should get paid.

Specifically, I like how he made the best out of a bad situation when he traded away cornerback Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Bucs. It's not only that he solved a headache that wouldn't go away -- with Revis demanding the Jets pay Revis top dollar or else; it's what he gained in return.

The Bucs' first-round pick this year and a conditional fourth in 2014.
OK, I know what you're thinking: That's not a lot for the best cornerback in the game, but, in this instance, yes, as a matter of fact it is. That's because of the extenuating circumstances that made this such a difficult and complicated deal for Idzik.

Yet, he pulled it off, and if this is a sign of what's to come the Jets are in good hands. Here's why:

First of all, Revis is coming off a major knee injury that makes his future uncertain. That's an issue that lessened his value.

Second, he wanted top dollar, not just as a cornerback but as a defensive player -- which means he wanted Mario Williams money. And he reportedly got it with a six-year, $96 million deal.

Third, because of a provision in Revis' contract, if the Jets didn't renegotiate the deal and he didn't hold out, he could have walked after the 2013 season ... with the club unable to protect him with the franchise tag. Worse, because of a quirk in the contract's structure, the club would have absorbed a $9 million hit in dead money.

Fourth, there's a very real question of Revis' value to the team. With him in 2011, they won eight games; without him in 2012, they won six -- or only two fewer. Plus, there was only one team last year that didn't allow a 100-yard receiver, and it was the Jets ... sans Darrelle Revis.

But this is Darrelle Revis, you say, the best frickin' player on the New York Jets' roster. You absolutely, positively, do not get rid of your best players, right? Wrong. Not here, not now. Because even with a healthy Darrelle Revis, the Jets are not a playoff team. In fact, they're not even close, with many already picking them and Oakland as favorites to compete for the first overall pick in the 2014 draft.

That would make the Jets ... uh-huh, a tear-down project, with Idzik hired to overhaul the team and somehow, some way, turn it into a winner again. That won't happen overnight, and it definitely wasn't going to happen this season with Darrelle Revis on the field.

So you do what you must ... which is get something for him while you can, and it's a testament to Idzik's patience and resolve that he was able to gain Tampa Bay's first-round choice this year. Some GMs I consulted said they wouldn't surrender a first-rounder, period, for Revis, partially because of his contract demands and partially because of the knee injury. Their point: For the money he's demanding, you could get two cornerbacks who can start.

But Idzik did, and he did it while everyone knew the score: He absolutely had to make a move, otherwise lose leverage with this week's draft. Nevertheless, he didn't panic when reports circulated that the Bucs were reluctant to trade away this year's first-rounder, hoping that something would happen that would extricate him and the Jets.

Well, something did. The Bucs blinked, and Idzik got what he wanted. Good for him. Now he can do what he should be doing all along ... which is to stop concentrating on what happens with a cornerback who wasn't in his future anyway and start rebuilding the New York Jets.

Nice move, John. You lost a good player, but you gained something more in return: a chance to start making the New York Jets into a better football team.

Thank you. So greedy. And we lost him for two picks. Hurray for 10 more years of mediocrity

I don't think you get it. You want a solution that allowed us to keep him and not strangle our cap. The fact remains no corner has ever been worth $16 million a year. Check the past 10 Super Bowl winning teams and see how many shut down corners they had - 1. The Packers and Woodson. We need more talented bodies and an elite QB. This trade plus the 4 compensatory picks we get next year plus the salary savings by dropping Sanchez, Holmes and others will ive us 12 picks and money for free agency. Plus he 2 #1's this year and with any luck Ivory and the free agents we signed plus our core of good players and we can have a serious team in a year or so.

We can package some picks to move up next year or stay where we are and draft enough players for 4 or 5 of them to make an impact - maybe that QB we have been missing.

This was the right move no matter what emotional feelings you had. Revis was my favorite Jet but the decision was the correct one under the circumstances.

Nope. No ownership but without US the fans, the Jets wouldn't have anyone to pay for the merch, ticketing, etc. so yeah.......the money does come from US.

For the zillionith time the money the players get comes from the TV contracts NOT the ticket sales.

There are a few things I have realized about Mr. Jet over a few topics.

1) He is a racist. By constantly using race as a battling tool.
2) He is an extreme Liberal. If you are on either extreme you are probabaly more wrong than right.
3) He is one of those people who will never admit fault, error or defeat.
4)His life sucks and he takes it out on people who don't share in his views.
