Chris Johnson’s visit with #Jets today went well, from what it sounded like. It’s over now. Nothing final yet, other teams still circling
santana Icon : (Yesterday, 08:25 PM) I think he's just stating the obvious but whatever it's an update
2JBallar01 Icon : (Today, 10:58 AM) CJ wants 2year, $10 million deal. Jets offered muti year deal, 3-4 mill a year
Jetsfan115 Icon : (Today, 10:59 AM) so he wants 2 year 10 mil and we offered what 4 years 12-15 mil?
2JBallar01 Icon : (Today, 11:07 AM) @emesola: Chris Johnson is seeking approximately 2 years, $10 million. Idzik is not budging over $3-4 mil/year it seems. #Jets #JetsTwitter
2JBallar01 Icon : (Today, 11:08 AM) Kristian Dyer has confirmed that Idzik offered a multi-year deal, we're looking at $3-4M per, as Esola said.

2JBallar01 Icon : (Today, 11:08 AM) I'm guessing 2 years 6 mill is what was offered

The current market rate for a starting running back is roughly $3M per year. Idzik is offering slightly more than that, and Johnson is seeking a good chunk more.
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 11:34 AM) this is negotiations, Johnson would like to sign here but will try to gauge his value more
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 11:34 AM) He was at the Knicks/Nets game yesterday
Jetsfan0099 Icon : (Today, 11:36 AM) Idk about the numbers, I read an article that said that the Jets offered a "attractive" deal to Johnson and that it was always a longshot that he would sign yesterday, but the Jets believe the deal is market value for him

Come on now. Did you even know who these guys were 24 hours ago? Let's not act like we just lost Carmen Policy and Ron Wolf. It was just two guys who we don't know how good or bad they were at their jobs. Those guys still could have left even if Tannenbaum was still the GM. Maybe San Diego offered them more money or a promotion? We don't know (and frankly I really don't care). Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill just because two scouts went to another team.

Wooden received a promotion, going from Assistant Director of Player Personnel to Director of Player Personnel.

Kelly is going from Mid-West region scout to Director of College Scouting.

Idzik didn't fire the first two guys (Mike Davis and Joe Bommarito), their contracts were not renewed.

Lets not jump to conclutions. Who said they were not going to be fired if they did not leave? Perhaps all 4 were not going to be here next year and those 2 had something in the pipeline so Idzik took the high road.

The Tannenbaum Five down to two

Another member of Mike Tannenbaum's inner circle is leaving the organization. On Monday, the Chargers announced the hiring of JoJo Wooden as their director of player personnel. It means three-fifths of the Tannenbaum Five is gone.

A quick review of changes to the Jets' football hierarchy over the past 12 months:

Tannenbaum, general manager: Fired after the season, replaced by John Idzik.

Scott Cohen, assistant GM: Remains with the team.

Joey Clinkscales, vice president, college scouting: Left last May to become the Raiders' director of player personnel, replaced by scout Jeff Bauer.

Terry Bradway, senior personnel executive: Remains with the team.

Wooden, assistant director of player personnel: Headed to the Chargers, along with area scout Kevin Kelly, hired as the director of college scouting.

Michael Davis, assistant director of college scouting: Contract not renewed last week.

So Idzik doesn't want his predecessors people there. I really don't see the issue.

The real question is why is Terry Bradway still in the front office?

I think he's Woody's guy. He predates everyone else in the organization.

Isn't the consensus on Bradway that he actually is a very good scout, just wasn't the greatest GM?

He was apparently banging on the tables for Russell Wilson last year.

You never know what their dynamic is. Woody hired him as soon as he got the team. They probably have a history and a good working relationship. The Jets haven't been drafting badly in the past decades. Sure we've had some major misses (D Rob, Gholston) but we've also had some hits (Revis, Mangold). From the outside looking in, it's pretty hard to judge how good Bradway is at his job because when you miss, the blame gets passed around and when you hit, everyone takes credit. What's funny tho is that teams that do well, get praised for continuety and keeping the same faces in the same positions, when teams do poorly, everyone wants everyone to be fired. I don't have a problem with Bradway, I have a bigger problem with the fact that our HC, as fun a guy as he is, openly admits to having zero input on the offense... but he went on to spent a 5th overall pick on a QB as soon as he got here. Kinda makes you wonder, did he have a clue what he was looking at when he scouted Sanchez? Was Sanchez doomed from the start or would have he been a different player under a different coach? Who knows. Point being, a lot of blame for "busts" gets laid at the feet of scouting, while basically, their job is to guess how a player is going to perform in the future based on variables that are entirely outside of their control. They say a good weather man is right 40% of the time, I think if a scout is right 25% of the time, he's considered good.

I think the problem is the public views the draft picks in a very black and white, yes or no sort of way. But, the reality is a guy who contributes to the team in any sort of way is a successful pick. I don't think teams make every selection hoping that player will be a steal and develop into a superstar. Some guys are picked just to play special teams, some are picked just to rotate in on third downs, and some are picked just to be backups. They are all part of what makes a championship team.
